CHAPTER 6
DEFLECTION
COMPUTATIONAL EXERCISE NO. 13
CONJUGATE BEAM METHOD

Objectives
• To practice students on how to solve displacement/deflection and slope in
a determinate beam using conjugate beam method.

Use E=200 GPa & I=100x106 mm4.

Problem No. 1 Determine the slope at A and the displacement at C in the figure
below.

Problem No. 2 Determine the displacement and slope at C and locate and
determine the maximum deflection from A between AB. Additional load (3 kN/m)
is distributed through AD. Draw the elastic curve of the beam.

Problem No. 3 Determine the displacement at B and C, and the slope at D.

Assume A is fixed, B is pin-connected, and D as roller. There will be a 20 kN/m load
from A to B. Draw the elastic curve of the beam.
