❑ Myanmar’s tourism industry experienced a major transformation after the
country’s democratization in 2011 and has been growth.
❑ Myanmar is blessed with a large number of tourist attractions.
❑ There is a great potential growth for the tourism industry
❑ Compared to ASEAN countries, it is still relatively undeveloped.

Income Contribution
❑ In 2019 – total contribution for tourism sector to country’s economy – 4.6 %
of GDP
❑ Direct contribution – 1.6 % of GDP

Employment Contribution
❑ Total employment across the tourism supply chain – 1.07 million
❑ Directly employed – 0.34 million (1.57 % of total employment) – 2019

06. Tourism Recovery Plan
❑ Will vaccinate all tourism and hospitality staffs to enable hotels and guesthouses across the country to
reopen.
❑ Cooperates with ASEAN in – drawing ASEAN level policies for recovery of business and the common
health guidelines, implementing ASEAN Travel Corridor, recognizing Travel Pass and Safely Protocol and
establishing ASEAN Recovery Fund.
❑ Myanmar Tourism Strategic Recovery Roadmap (MTSRR) (2021-2025) was provided by the Ministry of
Hotels and Tourism with cooperation with UNWTO and Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency
Immediate Action - To boost the domestic tourism and ensure the safety protocols
Medium-Term Action - To rebuild visitor demand and improve product offerings
Long-Term Action - To develop a more balanced, responsible and sustainable
tourism sector
