EXAMPLE AND REVIEW

Another film that has been produced by the great Akira Kurosawa is entitled ‘Rashomon’. This
film is one of his very well-known works back then. One of the reasons why Rashomon is
considered as one of the most influential films in terms of its technique and aesthetics is
because of the acting in the style of silent movies. Since Kurosawa did not search for realism in
acting and wanted to keep with the silent film approach, majority of the actors performed
overdramatized performances in which they used their faces, gestures, and eyes to portray
their feelings and ideas rather than words.
For instance, Toshiro Mifune, who portrays the robber, and Machiko Kyo, who plays the wife,
demonstrate this particularly well. Both use very expressive facial expressions, dramatic laughs
to mock, and grandiose gestures in their acting. Kichijiro Ueda, who plays the commoner under
the gate, exhibits the same behavior, which is most noticeable in the last sequence. Takashi
Shimura, who portrays the woodcutter, on the other hand is more restrained in his
performance, despite being similarly quiet, and exudes the dignity that has made him one of
the most important Japanese performers of all time.

CONCLUSION
All in all, the reason why we chose Akira Kurosawa as the literary figure for this assignment is
because Akira Kurosawa is such an influential director who portrays the pure values that can be
emulated by our society. Thus, movie creator like Akira Kurosawa should be taken as an
example who could motivate us to succeed in our future. That is all from us, thank you for
watching!
