Letter of Motivation for MSc in Land Management and Geospatial Science at

Introduction
I am formally writing this letter to hereby express my interest in pursuing postgraduate studies in Land
Management and Geospatial Science at Technical University of Munich. First, I would like to talk about
myself. I am Arslan Kausar hailing from Pakistan. Currently enrolled in Masters in Civil Engineering
at Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xian, China funded by full scholarship. I have done BSc
Civil Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan securing 1st
Division.

Professional Experience
After getting bachelor’s degree i got an internship position in a private consultancy where I was initially
responsible for the tasks related to Environmental engineering sector such as Initial Environmental
Examination of BTS Telecommunication Towers, Oil Storages and Environmental Impact Assessment
of Steel Industries in which I performed well. Looking into my performance I was offered a position of
junior engineer permanently, and with the passage of time scope of work was broadened so I got an
opportunity to work on the project of Landfills design project, in which I had the role of engineer and
as well as a manager. I have assisted the senior engineers in design and also worked with the government
institution by acquiring land for the landfills. Furthermore, I had to face the public in this regard to
demarcate the land for project and setting up its GIS maps for further perusal, this was not the task from
my job role but I have taken it as a challenge to learn new skills which was later became my sheer
interest to further pursue academic career into the Land Management and Geospatial Science as the
project was purely practically connected with Land management and Geographic information System.
Though this project was a great challenge to work on but I have successfully concluded my role. Now
I have decided to pursue Master’s degree. My graduation in civil engineering has provided me with a
sound knowledge of structural engineering, foundation engineering and transportation engineering,
environmental engineering, Engineering Management and GIS. However, my true interest lies in the
realm of Land Management and Geospatial Science. I have taken the challenges of these subjects with
keen interest and cleared them with good grades which has pushed me to pursue postgraduate academic
career in the field of Land Management and Geospatial Science.

Despite the fact that I have good academic career in the current program I have realized that my research
interest does not align with the area of expertise of the supervisor at NPU China. Which has produced
a convincing logic for me to change my field of study to Land Management and Geospatial Science
offers the best opportunity for to excel in practical direction of Urban Planning and Laws of Land
Management.
TUM has cutting edge research facilities supervised by qualified teaching staff makes an ideal
environment for me to study there and further excel in my academic interests. Which will eventually
enable me to learn the skills of today’s demand in the professional industry.

In addition to that, at TUM I will not only be limited to the pursual of world class education but I will
also be exposed to the diversity of perspectives and cultures from all across the world enhancing my
overall abilities and learning experience which will me make me ready for any kind of environment and
opportunity in the professional industry.

I am confident that my experience and academic background make me a suitable candidate for the MSc
in Land Management and Geospatial Science at TUM. I am confident enough that my academic
background with regard to my passion will make me in a position where I will make meaningful
scientific contribution to this field. I would appreciate your guidance regarding the admission process
and any specific requirements that I need to meet. Additionally, I would like to request an acceptance
letter to initiate the preparations for my studies.
