Memoria en Ciudad Relámpago1

Hello, I am Jerr. Actually, I have too many stories from when I was a child, but I can’t
tell you all of them in this paper. I was born in Malang, but my family moved to Depok
shortly after my birth until I grew up in Cimanggis, Depok, for over a dozen years. Now, I
stay in Malang again.

Growing up in the heart of the city was like living in a different world—a world of
concrete jungles and towering skyscrapers. Instead of fields and hills, my playground was the
bustling streets and crowded sidewalks. Yet, amidst the chaos, there were still moments of
magic and adventure.

Every dry season, when the sun beat down mercilessly on the asphalt, my friends and
I would roam the city in search of excitement. We didn't have forests to explore, so we made
our adventures amidst the urban landscape. Empty lots became our battlegrounds, and
alleyways were our secret hideouts. We were city kids, navigating the streets with the
confidence of seasoned explorers.

In that derelict building, we found a sense of freedom that was rare in the confines of
the city. We climbed to the roof and watched as the sun dipped below the skyline, casting a
golden glow over the urban landscape. For a moment, we felt like kings of the world, rulers
of our domain.

As the years passed and the city grew, our adventures became fewer and farther
between. The abandoned building was torn down, replaced by yet another skyscraper

reaching towards the heavens. But the memories of our childhood escapades remained,
etched in the concrete of the city streets and the graffiti on its walls.

Now, living in a different city, I find myself yearning for the town of my childhood,
where memories still linger in every corner. Though I have moved away, there is no pressing
reason to return to my hometown except to reminisce and perhaps relive those carefree
moments of play.

There, in Ciudad Relámpago, The Lighting City also known as Depok, among the
streets once traversed with my childhood sneakers and joyous laughter with my friends, lie
unforgettable memories.Even though I live in Malang now, Cimanggis holds a special spot in
my heart, where I feel most like myself, full of happiness and adventures.
