We use a when the following word starts with a consonant. For example: a car
We use an when the following word starts with a vowel. For example: an elephant
In these two cases, the nouns are countable and singular and we use them to talk about something for the
first time. For example: I am watching a film.
We also use a-an to talk about professions. For example: she is a teacher
THE
We use THE to talk about specific nouns or nouns mentioned before. For example: the dog, the pink bag,
the film is excellent.
We use THE for a unique thing or person. For example: The Sun – The Eiffel Tower – The Pope
NO ARTICLE
We use NO ARTICLE when we talk about things in general. For example: Dogs are cute.
