POR

Revolutionary patent pending invention for on-site food production facilities that scale easily (serving municipalities, institutions or back-yard farms) and provide years of reliable access to a source of low-fat protein and vegetables that can be grown organically.
Although aquaponics (the simplest definition being the symbiotic cultivation of plants and aquatic animals in a recirculating environment) has been around in various forms for thousands of years, Portable Farms LLC has devised proprietary ways to produce yields that fall well within established production parameters for existing aquaponics systems, but with a much more stable system requiring less intervention and maintenance, featuring much greater environmental sustainability, when compared to competing technology.

Each turn-key unit is an environmentally-conscious, on-site food production facility that pays for itself over time. In its first year of business through June 2009, Portable Farms LLC has received inquiries from 150 countries and conducted 4,000 private tours of its Portable Farms Aquaponics Systems.

Yearly Production From the Portable Farms Aquaponics System

A single 90' x 120' (27.5m x 36.5m) unit produces 60,000 vegetables and 23,000 lbs. (10,400 kgs) of fish per year. A single 20' x 30' (6m x 9m) two tank unit produces 3,600 vegetables and 1,400 lbs. (635 kgs) of fish per year. A single 10' x 20' (3m x 6m) unit produces 1,100 vegetables and 400 lbs. (180 kgs) of fish per year. A single 6' x 8' (1.8m x 2.5m) unit produces 400 vegetables and 100 lbs. (45 kgs) of fish per year. Tilapia Fish

Bringing Food Production Practices into the 21st Century Think Globally, Act Locally
Create a sustainable and stable system, featuring a symbiotic relationship between thriving plants and healthy aquatic animals. Utilize a non-soil planting medium. Eliminate almost entirely the risk of pests and disease. Establish year-round productivity for your produce without using a fully climatized enclosure. Lessen the need to over-fish our oceans, rivers and lakes. Reduce groundwater impact, over-irrigation and discharge of pollutants attributable to in-ground farming. Taking into account the environmental impact of moving refrigerated food, units can have a Carbon Negative footprint.

Portable Farms Aquaponics Systems (Patent Pending) Are Easy to Operate and Maintain
GROW TRAY CONTROL SYSTEM

SETTLING TANK

No chemicals (that means no pesticides, herbicides or fungicides), fertilizers, nutrients, antibiotics or buffers need to be added to the system to enhance the growth and the health of the plants and fish, and there is no need to continuously monitor the nutrient levels, pH, salinity, oxygen or anything else in the water or gravel.
The Portable Farms Aquaponics System uses a timed cycle to circulate the water throughout the system, so the plants constantly receive a fresh supply of warm, nutrient-laden water. Since plants grow in trays filled with gravel or river rocks and there is absolutely no soil used in the system, weeding and traditional agricultural pests are eliminated. Daily operations and maintenance in a 20' x 30' unit can be accomplished in as little as 20 minutes per day. A single person, with proper training, can operate and maintain 20,000 square feet, nearly one-half (1/2) acre, of Portable Farms Aquaponics Systems. Like other true aquaponics systems, fresh water usage and waste is dramatically curtailed (these systems require only a small fraction of the fresh water required to irrigate a comparable number of vegetables planted in the ground).

Scaling actually enhances reliability redundancies built into the Aquaponics System means that a typical 90 x 120 commercial unit will remain more than 95% operational even in the unlikely event of a component failure or user negligence.
The Portable Farms Aquaponics System scales easily and can be sized to meet your exact production needs and specifications. Call us for more information or to arrange a site inspection.
