During engine operation, fuel is drawn from the fuel tank (12) by the electric fuel transfer pump (8).
The electric fuel transfer pump (8) pumps the fuel through the fuel filter (11). The fuel filter is

equipped with a reverse flow element. After the fuel has been filtered, the fuel is pumped to the fuel
injection pump (7).

Note: The electric fuel transfer pump must not be allowed to run dry for more than 60 seconds
when the fuel system is being primed. The electric fuel transfer pump requires fuel for lubrication.
The precision parts of the pump can be damaged without lubrication.

The excess fuel flow to the fuel injection pump (7) is returned to the fuel filter base. This fuel can be
supplied back to the fuel injection pump. The system will vent through the fuel return vent (10) that
is built into the fuel filter base.

The fuel injection pump is equipped with an electronic controller (5) to precisely control the injection
of the fuel. The fuel injection pump (7) supplies fuel to each fuel injection nozzle through high-
pressure fuel lines (4). The excess fuel flow to the fuel injection nozzles flows back to the tank
through the leak off pipes (1).

The fuel system must be primed when any of the following conditions occur:

The fuel filter is changed.

The fuel line is removed.

The fuel injection pump is removed.

Liquid Level Alarm

A liquid level alarm is included as part of this system. The liquid level alarm is capable of the
detection and the remote annunciation of a leak. The alarm body consists of a cast aluminum tank
with an integral mounting flange. The stainless steel float assembly incorporates a Buna-n float.
The float switch is a fully encapsulated, magnetically operated reed type switch. The electrical
connection is made to a terminal block in the upper sealed chamber of the alarm tank.

The fuel leakage that is contained within the outer sheath flows to the end of the line. This fuel then
flows into the manifold body. The manifold body is located between the injection pump housing and
the lines. Connected to the manifold, the liquid level alarm tank fills and the switch sends an
electrical signal to a lamp or to an audible alarm. This warns the operator.
