by Malaysia. Since then, Malaysia has become a major power in the event and
maintained its dominance as the gold medalist in the bi -annual games. From the
1971 SEAP Games, Kuala Lumpur until the 1983 Singapore SEA Games, Malaysia
never failed to take home a gold medal. the national sepaktakraw team that
participated in the SEA Games in Jakarta in 1979, managed to grab the gold medal,
thus placing the country as a leading team in Southeast Asia. In 1980, the Malaysian
Sepaktakraw Association (PSM) at that time under Tan Sri Samad Idris also held a
series of shows in the People's Republic of China, North Korea and Hong Kong,
thus the sport penetrated interest among the Asian countries. During that period
especially until 1983, the Malaysian team was so dominant that it swept gold medals
in all SEAP Games and SEA Games except the 1967 SEAP Games in Bangkok,
Thailand where Malaysia only won silver medals and the 1969 SEAP Games in
Rangoon, Myanmar because the event was not contested. . Malaysia also won two
gold medals at the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing, China and one gold medal at the
1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima, Japan which was the last gold medal won by the
national team at the Asian Games. Malaysia won the gold medal in the team event
at the 1991 Manila SEA Games, the gold medal in the inter -squad event to Malaysia
