Security Desk
1. Is a UMT Card mandatory for library entrance?
Yes, a UMT card is mandatory for library entrance.
2. Are outsiders/visitors allowed in the library?
No, outsiders/visitors are not allowed to enter the library.
3. Are bags allowed in the library?
No, bags are not allowed in the library.
4. Are laptops/mobiles allowed in the library?
Yes, laptops and mobiles are allowed, but mobile phones must be on silent mode.
5. How can I obtain a library membership?
Please visit the library circulation desk.
Circulation Section
1. Can I access the catalogue from my home or office computer?
Yes, you can access the catalogue (OPAC) from the LRC webpage (lrc.umt.edu.pk).
2. What are the library timings (opening and closing)? Currently, the library is open from
8:00 am to 9:30 pm, and Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
3. How many books can I check out?
For faculty members 30 books, 10 Books for MPhil/PhD Student and for undergraduate
student 4 books are issued.
4. What is the loan period for books?
For permanent staff, the loan period is three months. For students, it is 14 days.
5. Do I have to visit the library to renew a book?
No, you can renew books twice online. However, renewal is not permitted if your account
is blocked, has fines, or has overdue books.
6. What should I do if I cannot find a book on the shelf?
Check the OPAC to determine the book's status. If still not found, report the issue to the
Circulation Desk.
7. Does the library purchase course textbooks?
The library purchases textbooks upon instructor request. Instructors may submit a Course
Reserves request if needed.
8. How can I obtain an online library membership?
Please visit the library website and fill the library membership form to get the library
membership.
9. How can I connect to UMT WIFI?
Please visit the digital common of the library to get assistance in connecting to WIFI.
10. How can I avail online book reservation and renewal?
Guidance is provided on using the library OPAC to access and reserve books online.
Alternatively, individuals can email circulation@umt.edu.pk.
11. How should I handle Library material loss cases?
Please visit the circulation desk for further information.
12. How can I get Final Transcript clearance, semester freeze, program change, readmission,
and other clearances?
To obtain clearances like Final Transcript, semester freeze, program change, readmission,
fulfill academic requirements for Final Transcript clearance, submit a request for
semester freeze, consult with your advisor for program changes, adhere to readmission
policies, and resolve any outstanding issues by contacting the relevant departments.

To get a library membership, visit the library website at lrc.umt.edu.pk and click on the
'register now' button to fill out the membership form.
2. What remote services does the library offer?
The library provides remote assistance via email at library@umt.edu.pk and through the
'Ask a Librarian' on the library website. Additionally, electronic resources such as e-
books and streaming videos are accessible on the library website.

Access the library's online catalogue by visiting the KOHA OPAC URL provided on the
library's website, lrc.umt.edu.pk, and then conducting a search for materials.
4. How can I access library databases?
To access library databases, go to the library website at library@umt.edu.pk and click on
the 'E-journal Databases' tab to select and utilize any of the available research databases.
5. How can I search library databases?
You have two options for searching in subscribed databases: federated search using
Summon, which simultaneously searches all databases, or individual database search by
selecting a specific database from the provided list.
6. How can I request Document Delivery (DDS)?
You can request materials through the online request form or by emailing the library. The
library will then acquire the requested materials from its own collection or subscribed
databases.
7. Can assistance be provided in finding resources for research topics?
Yes, assistance in finding resources for research topics is available. Simply provide your
research topic, and we'll assist you in finding relevant resources.
8. What assistance can I expect from the Reference Desk?
Reference services are available both in-person and online for help with locating
resources, requesting Document Delivery Services (DDS), similarity checking,
understanding research concepts, thesis formatting guidelines, and refining search
strategies.
9. What does thesis format checking involve, and when should I use this service?
Thesis format checking ensures compliance with formatting requirements set by UMT.
This service should be utilized before submitting the final document.
10. Are these services available to all students?
Yes, our services are available to all students, including undergraduates and
postgraduates.
11. Is there a limit to how many times I can use these services?
There is no set limit on the number of times you can use our services.
12. How long does it typically take to receive assistance after requesting a service?
Response times may vary, but we strive to address your needs as soon as possible.
13. How can I reserve Learning Commons and for how long?
Learning Commons can be reserved manually or online for a maximum of 45 minutes.
Facilities Management Section (FMS)
1. Can I borrow a thesis?
No, theses cannot be borrowed; they are only available for consultation inside the library.
2. How can I search for Thesis?
Thesis are available both in soft and hard form (MS/MPhil/PhD). Open the Theses folder
from the system available in the thesis consultation section, select your school, then
department or subject, and follow the provided instructions.
3. Are BS Theses available in hard form?
No, BS Theses are only available in soft form, uploaded in the data box, where you can
view, read, and take notes from them.
4. Can the Library share or send Theses related to our topic?
Students' theses cannot be shared with other students; they can only be shared with the
authors of the Theses.
5. What is the color of binding for theses?
6. The color of binding for Ph.D. theses is Brown (Mahroon) with golden writing, for
MS/MPhil theses it's black with golden writing, and for BS theses it's blue with silver
writing.
7. How can we find books on the library bookshelves?
Books are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system. It
divides knowledge into ten classes from 000-999.
8. How can I locate books related to my subject?
Subject tags are hung above the bookshelves for the guidance of library users.
9. Can I take pictures of specific pages of Theses?
No, taking pictures from Theses is not allowed; you can only take notes from them.
10. What is the acceptable similarity percentage for a thesis?
The overall acceptable similarity for a thesis is 19%, with similarity from a single source
being less than 5%.
11. Which documents are required for a thesis?
For a thesis, the required documents include Certificate of Approval, Similarity report,
Declaration, Acknowledgment, Dedication, Plagrisim undertaking, etc., all the documents
combine into a single PDF file.
12. What are the consultation timings for Theses?
Theses consultation is available from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, with a break from 1:00 pm to
2:00 pm.
