Let us read and take a look at the following sentences taken from the dialogue.
1. I love to play with water.
2. You should learn how to conserve water.
3. We can’t take a bath and brush our teeth without water.
Point of view is the perspective, or view from which the narrator tells the story.
The narrator is the person/character who is telling the story.
First Person
The narrator is one of the characters in the story.
He/She is usually the main character.
It uses pronouns like I, my, we, our, me and us.
Third Person
It is the most commonly used point of view.
The narrator is not a character in the story. He/she tells the readers about the feelings or
thoughts of the character.
Pronouns used are he, she, it, they, him, her, their, and them.
Example: One Saturday morning, Andrea and her mother are busy preparing the laundry.

Directions: Identify the correct point of view in each sentence. Tell whether if it is in the
first person, second person and third person, then write the clue words that helped you
determine its point of view.
1. They are very excited to move in their new house.
2. I turned and saw a frightening image inside my room.
3. My mother and I went to the market to buy some foods.
4. You should be more careful when handling fragile objects.

Directions: Read and analyze each sentence. Draw a (O) if the statement point of view is in
the First Person, (*)for Second Person and (=)for Third Person Point of view. Put your
answer on a separate sheet of paper.
1. I ran through the dark room.

3. “I had the happiest day yesterday! I will tell you all about it.”
4. The company is very happy with the progress you are making.
5. Mario is a family man. He provides anything that his family needs.

Directions: Read the sentence carefully and write the point of view. Then tell how you

Example: Sheryl is a Grade 5 pupil. She is the most intelligent girl in school.
What is the point of view? Third Person
How do you know? The narrator is not in the story. “She” is used as clue word.
