SELECTIVE DEMOLITION

PART 1- GENERAL
1.1. SECTION INCLUDES
1.1.1. Removal of designated construction as indicated on drawings.
1.1.2. Identification of utilities.
1.1.3. Removal and storage of items as indicated on drawings.

1.2. DEFENITION
1.2.1. Remove and salvage – items indicated to be removed and salvaged remain the
Employer’s property. Remove, cleaned and pack or crate items to protect against
damage. Identify contents of containers and deliver to Employee’s designated
storage area.
1.2.2. Existing to remain -Project construction indicated to remain against damage and
soiling during selective demolition.

1.3. SUBMITALS
1.3.1. Qualification Data: For firms and persons specified in “Quality Assurance”
Article to demonstrate their capabilities and experience. Includes lists of
completed projects with project names and addresses, names and addresses of
architects and Employer’s, and other information specified.
1.3.2. Proposed dust control and noise control; submit statement or drawing that
indicates the measures proposed for use.
1.3.3. Schedule of Selective Demolition Activates.
1.4. PROGECT RECORD DECUMENTS
1.4.1. Accurately record actual locations of capped utilities.

1.5. REGULARATY REQUERMENTS

1.5.1. Confirm to referenced standards and local code for demolition work, safety of
structure, dust and noise control.
1.5.2. Obtain required permits from authorities.
1.5.3. Notify affected utility companies before starting work and comply with their
requirements.
1.5.4. Do not close or obstruct egress width to exits.
1.5.5. Conform to procedure applicable when discovering hazardous or
contaminated materials.

1.6. QUALITY ASSURANCE


1.6.1. Demolition firm qualification: An experienced firm that has specialized in
demolition work similar in material and extent to that indicated for this project .

1.7. SEQUANCING
1.7.1. Schedule work to coincide with new construction.
1.7.2. Describe demolition removal procedures and schedule.

PART 2- PRODECTS- NOT APPLICABLE


2.1. REPAIR MATERIALS
2.2.1. Use martial whose installed performance equals or surpasses that of existing
materials.
2.2.2. Use materials that visually match existing adjacent surfaces to the fullest extent
possible.

PART 3- EXCUTION
3.1. EXAMINATION
3.1.1. Verify that utilities have been disconnected and capped.
3.1.2. Survey existing conditions and correlate with requirements indicated to determine
extent of selective demolition.
3.1.3. Maintain existing utilities indicated to remain in service and protect them against
damage during operation.

3.1.4. When unanticipated mechanical, electrical, or structural elements that conflict with
intended function or design are encountered, investigate and measure the nature
and extent of conflict. Promptly submit a written report to Engineer.
3.1.5. Engage a professional engineer to survey condition of building to determine removing
any elements might results in structural deficiency or unplanned collapse of any
portion of structure or adjacent structures during selective demolition operations.

3.2. UTILITY SERVICES


3.2.1. Exciting utilities: Maintain services indicated to remain and protect them against
damage during selective demolition operations.
3.2.2.Do not interrupt exciting utilities serving occupied or operating facilities unless
authorized in writing by Employer and authorities having jurisdiction. Provide
temporary services during interruption to exciting utilities, as acceptable to Employer.
3.2.3. Utility Requirements: Local, identify, disconnected and seal or cap off indicated
utilities serving areas to be selectively demolished.

1. Arrange to shut off indicated utilities with utility companies.


2. If utility services are required to be removed, relocated, or abandoned, before
proceeding with selective demolition and that maintain continuity of service to
other parts of building.
3. Cut off pipe or conduit in walls or partitions to be removed. Cap, valves, or plug
and seal remaining portions of pipe conduit after pay-passing.
4. Do not start selective demolition work until utility disconnected and sealing
have been completed and verified in writing.
3.3 PREPERATION
3.3.1. Site access and temporary controls Conduct selective demolition and debris- removal
operations to ensure minimum interference with walks, walkway, and other adjacent
occupied and used facilities.

used facilities without permissions from Employer and authorities having

jurisdiction. Provide alternate routes around closed or abstracted traffic ways if


required by governing regulations.
2. Erect temporary protection, such as walks, fences, railings, canopies, and
covered passageways, where required.
3. Protect existing site improvements, appurtenances, and landscaping to remain.
3.3.2. Temporary facilities: Provide temporary barricades and other protection required to
prevent injury to people and damage to adjacent areas and facilities to remain.
1. Provide protection to ensure safe passage of people around selective demolition
area and to and from occupied portions of building.
2. Provide temporary weather protection, during interval between selective
demolition of existing constructions on exterior surfaces and new construction,
to prevent water leakage and damage to structure and interior area.
3. Protect walls , ceiling, floors, and other existing finish work that are to remain or
that are exposed during selective demolition operations.
4. Cover and protect furniture, furnishing, and equipment that have not been
removed.
3.3.3. Temporary Enclosure: Provide for protection of existing areas and construction, in
progress and completed, form exposure, foul weather, other construction
operations, and similar activities. Provide temporary weathertight enclosure for
building exterior.
3.3.4. Temporary partitions: Erect and maintain dustproof partitions and temporary
enclosure to limit dust and dirt migration and to separated areas from fumes and
noise.
3.3.5. Temporary shoring: Provide and maintain interior and exterior shoring, bracing, or
structural support to preserve stability and prevent movement, settlement, or
collapse of construction to remain, and to prevent unexpected or uncontrolled
movement or collapse of construction of being demolished.
1. Strengthen or add new supports when required during progress of selective
demolition.

3.4. SELECTIVE DEMOLITION METHOD STATEMENT


3.4.1. General: Demolish and remove existing construction only to the extent
required by new construction and as indicated. Use methods required to complete
the work within limitation of governing regulation and as follow:

1. Proceed with selective demolition systematically, from higher to lower level.


Complete selective demolition operations above each floor or tier before
distributing supporting members on the next lower level.
2. Neatly cut opening and holes plump, square, and true to dimensions required.
Use cutting method least likely to damage construction to remain or adjoining
construction. Use hand tools or small power tools designed for sawing or
grinding, not hammering or chopping, to minimize disturbance of adjacent
surfaces. Temporary cover openings to remain.
3. Cut or drill form the exposed or the finished side into concealed surfaces to
avoid marring existing finished surfaces.
4. Do not use cutting torches until work area is cleared of flammable material. At
concealed spaces, such as duct and pipe interiors, verify conditions and
contents of hidden space before starting flame-cutting operations. Maintain
fire watch and portable fire-supervision devices during flame- cutting
operations.
5. Maintain adequate ventilation when using cutting torches.
6. Remove decayed, vermin-infested, or otherwise dangerous or unsuitable
material and promptly dispose of off-site.
7. Remove structural framing members and lower to ground by method suitable
to avoid free fall and to prevent ground impact or dust generation.
8. Locate selective demolition equipment and remove debris materials so as not
to impose excessive loads on supporting walls, floors or framing.
9. Dispose of demolition items and material promptly.
10. Return elements of construction and surfaces that are to remain to condition
existing before selective demolition operation began.
11. Demolition of structural members such as concrete slab, beams and wall will
be carried only after the entire bay that include the members such as slab or
beam or is supported by that member such as beam or wall is fully propped.
12. Propping shall be removed only after strengthening in the area of demolition
is completed.
3.4.2. Provide and maintain during the execution of the works all shoring , strutting
needling and other supports as may be necessary to preserve the stability of the
existing structure that may be endangered or effected by the works.
3.4.3. Concrete: Demolition in sections. Cut concrete full depth at junctures with
construction to remain and at regular intervals, using power-driven saw, then
remove concrete between saw cuts.

3.4.4. Masonry: Demolition in small sections cut masonry at juncture wit construction to
remain, using power-driven saw, then remove masonry between saw cuts.
3.5. DISPOSAL OF DEMOLISHED MATERIALS
3.5.1. Promptly dispose of demolished material. Do not allow demolished materials to
accumulate on site. Transport demolished materials and dispose of at designated
spoil areas.
