Question 1(a).
1. Sustainability of the project towards the environment. Just like any other project, it
is important to make sure the project would bring great benefit or simply does not
harm the environment. In this case, the environment will include the natural flora
and founa surrounding the residential area, and even the residents. The retention
pond would not only keep the residential area safe as a function of the stormwater
runoff management, but will also be a great recreational space for the residents,
as well as a new natural habitat for the existing flora and fauna too.
2. Mainly to manage the stormwater. As a future precaution, the residential is in need
of a way to manage the stormwater runoff. The retention pond could serve as a
storage for excess water during heavy rainfall, which will greatly helps in reducing
flooding accidents around the residential area.
3. Enhance the residential area’s image. Other than to build a way to manage the
stormwater runoff, the project also mainly serve to create a luxury image of a
residential area with a lakeside concept to it. This project will attract a lot of future
residents to stay here as the project brings out an aesthetic and nature-like vibe to
it.

Question 1(b).
1. The ECO Globe as the developer of the project. They will be responsible in the
project initiation, management as in progress and the completion of the project.
Their role is to watch over the project’s success availability and make sure the
project meets the investors and future buyer’s expectations. They will mainly
expects that the project gives great benefit to the company.
2. Profession such as engineers and architects. They role is mainly on the building
of the retention pond as they have the skills for it. They are responsible on the
project’s design, plans and the construction success. They will be expected to be
able to create a success retention pond that meets all requirement listed.
3. Buyers and investors. Their role is to bring support to the projects as in finance
and requirement of the project. A project wont be made if they are no need of them
in the society.
4. Government authority. Before any start of the project, an official permit is needed.
They are responsible in providing that permit, by ensuring that the project benefits
or match the regulation that has been set.

Question 1(c).
1. Space requirement. It is important to know how much space would the project
takes. By determining this, the cost could also be narrowed down greatly.
2. Maintanance. A retention pond must be maintain regularly to ensure the pond is
able to continue serving it’s purpose. Poor maintenance will result in unneeded
events such as flooding, which defeats the original purpose of the pond.
3. Property value impact. The presence of a beautiful retention pond itself will greatly
increase the property value, making it more appeal in the eyes of the buyers. This
is considered important as the residential area will be in need of buyers and
investors.
4. Design complexity. Designing a pond would be hard as there are lots to consider,
such as the structures, pond geometry and others. This will be important as it will
determine the effectiveness of the pond.
5. Environmental impact. The project itself will involve the surroundings, meaning that
the area maybe bulldozed or cleared to make way for the project. This will disturb
the balance of the environment. To stabilize the damage done, the project has to
also be sustainable towards the nature itself and not just the people. Therefore it
is important to consider the environment impact of the project.
Question 1(d).
Project charter.

Project name: Orchid Terrace Residential Area Retention Pond Development.

Project approach:
The project will be handled by ECO Globe in order to develop a residential area with a
luxury residential concept by the lake. The lake that will be built will also serve as a
retention pond for managing stormwater runoff, ensuring nearby streets and homes stay
flood-free. The project will use a phased approach.

Project Objective :
1. To design an effective and easy to manage retention pond to manage the
stormwater runoff.
2. To create a luxurious lakeside view concept for the Orchid Terrace Residential
Area.
3. To ensure a good environmental sustainability of the project.

Major deliverables.
1. A detailed design plan for the retention pond.
2. A construction of the retention pond.
3. A regular maintenance of the retention pond.
4. A constant monitor of the environmental impact of the retention pond.

Risk and feasibility.

The primary risk would be obtaining the permit for the retention pond construction as it is
not as easy as it seems. The retention pond must meet the regulations stated by the
government in or by creating a good relationship with a government authorities. Second
risk would be the design of the retention pond. It must achieve the expectations of the
society and also be able to overcome any future construction challenges. Third risk would
be the environmental impact of the retention pond after the pond been made. The
environmental impact could be predicted by doing a thorough research earlier in order to
know the best method or way of managing a retention pond.
Question 2(a).
The company could implement a matix organizational structure by assigning the
departments into different organizations according to the product The structure will allow
several departments to have a cross-functional collaboration.

Image 1 – Example of a matrix structure (Common Organizational Structures |

Principles of Management, n.d.)
The method will have disadvantages such as being too complex to handle. For example,
a worker will need to provide separate report for both their functional and project
managers, which may lead to conflicts due to dual authority. The matrix structure will also
lead to a difficult decision making situation as there will be 2 authority available. This may
lead to the project being slowed down.
However, there will be an obvious advantage such as allowing a cross-functional
collaborations. With this, the main issue that Ottowa Corp. is handling could be overcome
easily. Other than that, the structure could also be changed easily, providing a flexibility
and easier adaptability. With each teams formed from different functional departments, it
is easier for them to address any problem or specific requirements that may come of the
product line.

Question 2(b).
Feasibility study is a study that aims to provide every necessary information needed in
order to know about a certain project by taking note of it’s merits and viability. Only from
these information can we know if the project should be proceed or not.
Feasibility study is important in improving the team’s focus. With the information obtain,
the team will now know a detailed understanding of the project’s idea and objective. They
will eventually be more motivated, knowing that the project is doable. Feasibility study
also helps in identifying new opportunities. To start a project, it is crucial to know the
opportunities that lies within it. With enough evidence of what is lacking within the
community, new opportunities lies within the project. Finally, the study will also help in the
decision-making of the project. With enough study regarding, resources, risk, finance and
even the time needed regarding the project, making a decision during crucial times wont
be that hard.

Question 2(c).
team size When the team size is large, a software that supports
collaboration and some sort of way to communicate should
be considered. However, if the team size is small, a more
simple software should be recommended.
project complexity A more advanced features in the software may be needed if
the project is too complex. In contrast, a simpler software
will be utilized if the project is simple, as it may need only
basic task management and communication features.
collaboration needs Projects that has collaborations will need a software that
enables discussions to happen such as document sharing
and such.
budget Each software will have a subscription cost. Hence,
determining a budget for the cost of softwares is important.
integration capabilities A company may already have existing tools that they always
use. A software that could integrate with other tools are
recommended.

There are 5 types of project management software that is recommended:

1. Microsoft project
2. Monday.com
3. Zoho Projects
4. Basecamp
5. Asana
