You are provided with the following: -
2 new size D dry cells in a cell holderA torch bulb in a bulb holder A switchAn Ammeter
Seven connecting wires at least two with crocodile clips A Voltmeter
A resistance wire PQ mounted on a mm scaleA micrometer screw gauge (to be shared)
Proceed as follows:
a) Set up the circuit as shown in the figure below
b) With the crocodile clip at P, take the voltmeter reading and ammeter reading. Record V and I.
Repeat the readings for L= 80, 60, 40, 20 and 0 cm respectively and complete table below
Length, L (cm) 100 80 60 40 20 0
Voltage, V (V) 0.3 0.4 0.6 0.8 1.1 1.4
Current, I (A) 0.12 0.14 0.18 0.20 0.22 0.22
c) What changes do you observe on the bulb as L decreases from P? (1 mark)

f) Given the apparatus above, draw a diagram of the circuit you would use to determine the
current through the resistant wire and the potential difference across (2 marks)
g) Set up the circuit you have drawn. Record the ammeter reading and the voltmeter reading
when
V = ……………1.8……V......................……..
I = ……………0.14……A……………………..
d = ……………0.00036………………………………m
c) Attach the two small pieces of plasticine at both ends of the bent wire as shown in the diagram.
d) Place the bent wire on the optical pin and give a small horizontal displacement.
e) Measure the time for 10 oscillations and record in the table below
f) Repeat the procedure above for other values of angle and complete the table below (4 marks)
60 8.19
70 8.42
80 8.66
90 8.98
100 9.15
g) On the graph paper provided, plot a graph of f2 (y-axis) against cos ( θ2 ) . (5 marks)
