SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 5

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson with at least 75% accuracy, the Grade 5 pupils should be able
to:
a. identify and describe the moon phases, tides, eclipses, day and night, and
seasons;
b. develop curiosity and interest in understanding celestial phenomena like moon
phases, tides, eclipses, day and night, and seasons:
c. participate in group discussions and presentations, articulating understanding of
concepts related to moon phases, tides, eclipses, day and night, and seasons.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Science Concept: Phases of the moon, Tides, Eclipses, Day & night, and Seasons

Materials: PowerPoint presentations/ pictures

Reference: Science Grade 5 Teacher’s Guide, Unit IV

Values: Cooperation

III. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities

Prayer

Greetings

Checking of Attendance

Classroom Management

Review

B. Motivation

The teacher present some jumbled words related to the new topic to be
discuss. Then ask some students to try answering the words.

NOMO-MOON , ONSSEA- SEASON

SECLEIP – ECLIPSE , RUNAL-LUNAR

DETIS- TIDES , LASOR- SOLAR

C. Lesson Proper

a. Activity:
The teacher will group the class into two (2) groups. Then, show them pictures
of the phases of the moon randomly. Each group will have a representative to
say the final answer. Collaboration with the members is a must.

b. Analysis:

1. How did you feel about the activity overall?

2. What challenges did you encounter during the activity, and how did you overcome
them?
3. Did the activity make you curious or excited to explore more about the topic? Why
or why not?

c. Abstraction

The teacher will discuss the concepts and the occurrence of some celestial
phenomena related to moon phases like tides, eclipses, day and night, and seasons.
d. Application

The students will be grouped into two (2). Each group will draw the two eclipses
the solar and the lunar eclipse. This will check the students understanding about the
topic.
IV. EVALUATION

Directions: Write True if the statement is correct and False it it is not.

1. It takes approximately 27 and 1/3 days for the moon to complete a full rotation on
its axis.
2. The penumbra is the darker part of the shadow.
3. The tilt on the Earth’s axis causes day and night.
4. The winter solstice is the longest day of the year.
5. An equinox occurs once a year when day and night are of equal length.
6. Earth’s orbit around the Sun takes about 365.25 days to complete, forming a
nearly circular path known as an elliptical orbit.
7. Neap tides occurs at first and last quarter, when the Sun, the Earth and the Moon
are at the right angles with each other.
8. Full Moon occurs when the Moon is on the opposite side of Earth than the Sun.
9. Seasons are caused by the Earth’s revolution around the Sun and the unchanging
tilt of the Earth’s orbit.
10. A lunar eclipse will occur when the Earth blocks the light from the Sun and casts a
shadow in space.

V. ASSIGNMENT

Directions: Answer the following questions below. (10pts. each)

1. Explain why we experience different seasons on Earth.
2. Describe how the concept of day and night occurs.
3. Why do we not see an eclipse every month?
