Laboratory Apparatus
Alcohol Lamp/ Alcohol Burner
A small, portable heat source commonly used in
laboratories for applications requiring a low-
temperature flame. It is used to heat small
samples or solutions.

Analytical Balance
A very precise instrument used for measuring
the mass of very small objects, typically to the
nearest 0.0001 gram (0.1 milligram)

Aspirator
A device that uses reduced pressure to draw
fluids or gases through a tube. It is often used in
conjunction with a filter flask or vacuum
desiccator.

Beaker
A cylindrical glass container with a pouring spout
that is commonly used in laboratories for mixing,
heating, and holding liquids. Beakers come in a
variety of sizes and can be made from different
types of glass, such as borosilicate glass, which is
known for its resistance to heat and chemicals.

Bunsen Burner
A gas burner designed to produce a hot flame. It
is a common piece of laboratory equipment
used for heating, sterilization, and combustion
experiments. Bunsen burners typically use
natural gas or propane as fuel.
Laboratory Apparatus
Burette
Laboratory apparatus used in quantitative
chemical analysis to measure the volume of
a liquid or a gas. It consists of a
graduated glass tube with a stopcock
(turning plug, or spigot) at one end.

Clamp

variety of settings for supporting and securing

probes, columns, funnels and overhead stirrers.

Condenser
A device used in the laboratory to cool hot gases
into liquids. It is usually a long, circular glass
tube. Inside the tube there is another, smaller
tube.

Crucible
A device used in the laboratory to cool hot
gases into liquids. It is usually a long, circular
glass tube. Inside the tube there is another,
smaller tube.

Laboratory Apparatus

Crucible Tong
A scissors-like tools with two attached arms
that generate a rounded grasping region by
bending outward near the ends. This feature
enables users to safely grab flasks, small
Laboratory Apparatus
Muffle Furnace
A high-temperature heating equipment used for
annealing, ashing, and heat treating of materials.
It provides a controlled heating environment,
preventing contamination or oxidation of
samples.

solid materials in experiments.
Laboratory Apparatus
Stirring Rod
An indispensable piece of lab equipment for
combining chemicals and liquids for reactions
are long, thin stirring rods. Stirring rods are
non-abrasive, inert, and resistant to chemicals.
They can be made of solid plastic, glass, or
steel cores.
Testing Tube
A test tube is a compact, long, plastic
cylinder with one open end that is used
for holding, mixing, and storing liquids,
chemicals, bacteria, and body fluids.

Test Tube Rack

A piece of equipment used in
laboratories to hold several test tubes
upright at once is called a test tube
rack.

Watch Glass
A watch glass is a circular, concave piece of
glass that is used in chemistry as a cover for a
beaker, a surface for evaporating liquids, and a
container for solids to be held while being
weighed.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Boots / Safety Shoes
A Boots that are often made of durable materials and have reinforced
toes to withstand impact. These are essential for workers who are
exposed from different chemicals or in a hazardous environments
like in a laboratory. This is used to protect the feet from potential
hazards such as chemical spills, falling objects, sharp objects,
electrical dangers, slipping and more.

Earmuffs
An Ear Cover or protector that are usually made of soft, breathable
material and tightly adjustable. These are used to provide comfort,
improve communication and to protect the ears from loud noises
that may be coming from the lab, as well as from chemical fumes
that may be harmful if inhaled.

Gloves
A Hand Protector that are usually made of rubber, neoprene,
polyvinyl chloride, butyl, or nitrile if dealing with chemicals because
these are designed to protect hands against most chemicals and
infectious agents. These are used to protect the hands from direct
contact with chemicals and debris, which could cause burns,
infection, contamination, or other injuries.

Goggles
An Eye Protector that are usually made of a clear or transparent
material and have a secure fit to prevent any gaps through which
chemicals or debris like glass that could enter under or around the
googles. These are used to shield and protect the eyes against liquids
or chemical splashes, fumes, mists, vapors, and other hazards.

Laboratory Gown
A Coverall Lab Coat that are typically made from non-woven fabrics,
such as polypropylene or polyethylene. It is designed to protect the
body and clothing that provide a high level of resistance to a wide
range of chemicals, including acids, bases, solvents, and other
hazardous substances. It also used to provide a removable barrier to
prevent the spread of contamination outside the lab.

Masks
An Elastomeric Respirator is a reusable mask that is usually made
of a material that can filter out small particles and is designed to
fit securely over the nose and mouth. This is used to protect the
respiratory system from inhaling harmful chemicals, fumes, or
particles.
Guide Questions:
1. In performing experimental work, both students and
instructors should be aware of safety and must be their primary
duty to finish a task minus accident / injury. Draw the model
shown in the safety lab geared with PPE (Personal Protective
Equipment) then label each parts of the PPE and state its use.
2. State reasons why almost all of the laboratory apparatuses are
made of borosilicate glass.
