My Ode Brainstorming Sheet

An ode is a tribute to a person, thing, or event.

Step 1: Choose an object that you love (perhaps an object you use when you do a
favorite activity, or a favorite food).

Step 2: Decide whether your ode is going to be serious or silly (circle one).

Step 3: Talk directly to the object. Write a few sentences you could say to the
object to make it understand how much it means to you. Write at least one simile or
metaphor.

Step 4: List adjectives that describe your object.

Step 5: Consider your five senses. Whenever possible, finish the sentences that were
started below. (If the sentence starter does not apply to your object, skip that line.)

When I see you

When I hear you

You smell

You taste

You feel
Step 6: If you are writing a silly ode, write hyperboles about your object.
(Example: I wouldn’t survive without you.)

Step 7: Reread your sentences and draw a star by your favorite ones. Also, draw a
star by your favorite adjective.

Step 8: Start your first draft! Remember… speak directly to your object. Also, your
ode may rhyme, but it does not have to rhyme.
