SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

I. Introduction

Improving English skills is essential for non-native speakers who want to

communicate effectively in today’s globalized world. As a learner of English as a
Second Language (ESL), we must acknowledge the importance of DO 36, S. 2008, a
revision to DepEd Order No. 36, s. 2006 (Implementing Rules and Regulations on
Executive Order No. 210), Establishing the Policy to Strengthen the Use of the English
Language as a Medium of Instruction in the Educational in strengthening the student’s
language skills. To ensure that the students have the skills they need to prosper in a
worldwide society, this memo requires English to be the language of teaching in all
public schools. Through implementing DO 36, S. 2008, ESL students can access the
resources and support they need to improve their English proficiency and achieve their
academic and career goals.

The "Unlocking the World of Words: Supercharging English Vocabulary and

Reading Skills in Elementary Students" project presents practices that can
independently engage students in active processing, enhancing efficiency in both areas.
By focusing on these areas, we can greatly enhance their overall language proficiency.
This project is designed to equip ESL students with a vast repertoire of English words. A
broad vocabulary is crucial for enhancing communication skills as it enables students to
convey ideas accurately and express themselves fluently. Hence, this project will
effectively expand their word bank by utilizing a variety of interactive activities and
techniques such as word games, vocabulary expansion exercises, and word association
activities. Additionally, this project will highlight the value of good reading skills. Reading
not only improves language comprehension but also fosters critical and analytical
thinking skills. Students will build a strong foundation in reading comprehension through
guided reading sessions, discussions about interesting and relevant literacy works, and
comprehension exercises.

In today's fast-paced, interconnected world, proficiency in English language skills

is not just a desirable trait but a necessity. It all starts with our elementary students, the
budding wordsmiths and readers of tomorrow. This project is tailored to teachers,
parents, and anyone passionate about nurturing the language and reading abilities of
our young ones. We understand that elementary students are at a crucial
developmental stage, where the foundations of language and literacy are established.
"Unlocking the World of Words" is designed to address their unique needs and
challenges. It goes beyond traditional teaching methods to bring you the latest, most
engaging strategies and techniques that resonate with these young minds. By doing
this, students will boost their confidence in their language skills and open the door to a
lot of opportunities when it comes to academic success and personal growth.
