The conference is run by students, for students, with the aim of
providing exposure to areas of nursing that not every student will
have access to during their training. The Broadening Horizons
Conference is an opportunity for healthcare professionals to share
the new projects and innovations in their area of expertise and
encourage students to look beyond the fundamentals for care at the
wider aspects of working as a qualified nurse.

Broadening Horizons is;

A one day event held at the Oxford
Brookes University Faculty of Health
and Life Sciences, Marston Road.
A collection of formal and informal
talks, presentations and experiences
for students in 1st, 2nd and 3rd year
of adult, children’s and mental health
nursing.

Provide networking opportunities for all
involved.
Foster an culture of continued learning and
development.

The Broadening Horizons Conference will

provide opportunities for students to
demonstrate proficiencies in the 4 key areas of
the NMC Code (2018).

It will help students to develop the graduate

attributes of the Oxford Brookes University
(2010). Specifically, academic literacy, research
literacy and active citizenship.
What are we looking for?
Broadening Horizons is looking for speakers
from all backgrounds and areas of nursing to
share their knowledge with students.

Not every student gets the same experience during

their placements, with so many areas of work
available to nurses it would be impossible for
students to access everything during their training.

Broadening Horizons will provide students with the

opportunity to expand their knowledge in areas they
may not have the access to during their placements.
