UNLOCKING OF TERMS
PROMOTE – to advance or help bring into being or
present something for acceptance to the general
population
REGIONS – this refers to the seventeen regions
that comprise the Philippine archipelago.
The Philippines is an archipelago which
consists of more than 7,000 islands populated by
more than 100 million inhabitants. These islands
are grouped into 17 regions based on their
proximity, language, and culture.
Such groupings oftentimes do not
really reflect the tremendous diversity of the
country, but nevertheless is made for the purpose
of convenience and reference. The diversity of
Philippine culture is further exemplified by the
numerous arts and artworks all over the
archipelago. However, because of the way
everything seems to be centered in Metropolitan
Manila a lot of these arts from the provinces are
either unappreciated or
underappreciated. In today’s activity then, the
students are encouraged to try to change this.

Online Platform - combined resources at one’s
disposal, using the internet, to share his/her ideas
Promote – to advance or raise consciousness
about something or someone through several
ways.
In today’s world the internet rules.
Speaking of rules, the rules governing how to
promote things from products to ideas are slowly
being shaped by the virtual world. So, in keeping
with the times, culture and the arts must also be
promoted, in a way that takes advantage of the
means and platforms provided by information and
technology. Gone are the days when radio,
newspapers, and television are the only effective
ways of reaching out to people. However,
information and technology come with it a whole
set of challenges. It starts with acquiring knowledge
of the latest programs/applications and how to
utilize them properly.
First important thing towards
having an online platform, is having a website that
promotes the arts of the various regions. It is
advisable that each region has its own website that
compiles the best artworks from that specific
region. In this way the audience that is reached is
not confined to the region itself or to the country but
to the whole wide world of the internet.
Artists throughout the centuries
have been laughed at because their line of work
provides little financial remuneration. One of the
primary reasons is the fact that artists have
difficulty in advertising their work and even
gain recognition. With today’s virtual world,
however, if an artist uses at his disposal the
technology of the internet and current applications,
he/she stands to gain not just local, but
international following.

ways how to promote the artist and his/her artworks
using Facebook. After posting the artwork, send
the url or screenshot of your post to the teacher for
checking purposes. For today the partners will
brainstorm and then write their collective ideas on
the cellphone screen.

FEEDBACK – reaction to a certain action,
situation, a product being offered, or performance
of an individual or group; with the aim of future
improvement.
“Different folks, different strokes,” so
goes the saying. Hence it is unavoidable that some
negative comments or feedbacks will be received,
no matter how well one tried to promote something,
which in this case are Philippine arts. It is a rare
phenomenon for two or more sides to agree to
disagree in a congenial manner. This is because
negative feedbacks or comments would appear to
be somewhat like a disregard for the efforts made,
or a rejection of the worth of a product being
promoted. Some people are easy to take offense
from such comments; however, it should not be the
proper response.
Instead, one should take it as a
constructive criticism, or a challenge to improve on
what is at hand. There is always a room for
improvement so one should examine the ways in
which he/she can take these feedbacks as an
opportunity moving forward towards better things.
Understandably, what one
promotes here are the arts of his/her country,
particularly his/her region, so it can get so personal
whenever negative comments are received. If the
platform used for promoting the arts/artworks is
social media, the consequent reaction can become
fiery, thus social media once again can become
toxic. So, in this lesson the proper reaction to
comments/feedback/criticisms will be discussed

FEEDBACKS OR CRITICISMS AND STILL
MAINTAIN A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH THE
CRITICS:
1. Usually people are overcome by their emotions
and end up attacking the attacker. Instead of doing

2. Do not be defensive in responding to the
comments/criticisms. Though it is understandable
that negative comments can be demoralizing, just
think of it as something that can enable you to see
something that you probably did not see before.
Think of these as an opportunity for growth and
improvement, and not as a put down by some mean-
spirited person.
3. Think of the situation of the critic. Maybe that
person is just having a bad day so do not let that
negativity ruin your day as well. A little
understanding on your part could help both you and
the critic.
