i. This question paper consists of 39 questions in 5 sections.
ii. All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is provided in some questions. A
student is expected to attempt only one of these questions.

iv. Section B consists of 6 very short answer type questions carrying 02 marks each. Answers to these
questions should be in the range of 30 to 50 words.
v. Section C consists of 7 short answer type questions carrying 03 marks each. Answers to these
questions should be in the range of 50 to 80 words.
vi. Section D consists of 3 long answer type questions carrying 05 marks each. Answer to these
questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
vii. Section E consists of 3 source-based/case-based units of assessment of 04 marks each with sub-
parts.

27. 2g of silver chloride was taken in a china dish and kept in sunlight for some time. It was 3
observed that the colour changed to grey.
(i) State the colour of the silver chloride when it was initially kept in the china dish.
(ii) Name the type of chemical reaction taking place and write the balanced chemical
equation for the reaction.
(iii) Mention one use of the reaction. Name one more compound which can be used for the
same purpose.

28. (a) What will happen to the turmeric stain on a white cloth when it is scrubbed with soap? Give 3
reason.
(b) A metal carbonate M reacts with dil. HCl to produce a gas G along with water and sodium
chloride. The gas G turns lime water milky. On passing excess of gas G through lime
water, the milkiness disappears.
(i) Identify M and G.
(ii) Write the chemical equation of the reaction which takes place when milkiness
disappears.
OR
(a) Name the products formed when zinc metal reacts with sodium hydroxide.
(b) Solution A gives pink colour when a drop of phenolphthalein indicator is added to it.
Solution B gives red colour when a drop of methyl orange indicator is added to it. Predict
the nature of solutions A and B.
(c) Write a balanced chemical equation for a reaction of a metallic oxide with an acid.

29. All the leaves of a plant were covered with aluminium foil. How would it majorly affect the 3

flowering plants. Explain how translocation is achieved.

34. (a) What is a balanced chemical equation? Why do we need to balance a chemical equation? 5
Make the following equation more informative by adding physical state symbols
(for x and y) on the reactant side:

(iii) Is the reaction shown in the above diagram, exothermic or endothermic? Also mention
the type of reaction other than exothermic/endothermic.
(b) Define a double displacement reaction. Write the balanced chemical equation of a double
displacement reaction which is also a precipitation reaction.

(b) Lymph is an important fluid involved in transportation. If lymphatic vessels get blocked,
how would it affect the human body? Elaborate.
(c) Why do the walls of trachea not collapse when there is less air in it?

(a) Draw a neat diagram of human alimentary canal. Name and label the part
(i) where HCl is produced.
(ii) where complete digestion of food takes place.
(b) Name the end products formed after complete digestion of fats.
(c) Why do the lungs always contain a residual volume of air during the breathing cycle?

36. At what distance from a concave lens of focal length 20 cm, a 6 cm tall object be placed so as 5
to obtain its image at 15 cm from the lens? Calculate the size of the image formed.
Draw a ray diagram for the above situation.

OR

(a) An object 4 cm in size, is placed 25 cm in front of a converging mirror of focal length


15 cm. At what distance from the mirror, should a screen be placed in order to obtain a
sharp image? Find the size and the nature of the image so formed.
(b) How will the nature and size of the image formed in the above case change, if the
concave mirror is replaced by convex mirror of same focal length?

SECTION-E
Q.no. 37 to 39 are source-based/case-based questions with 3 sub - parts. Internal choice is
provided in one of these sub-parts.

37. Acids are the substances which have sour taste. We also know that acids generate hydrogen 4
gas on reacting with metals, so hydrogen seems to be common to all acids. Bases are soapy to
touch, bitter and corrosive. Bases can neutralise acids. Indicators can be used to distinguish
between acids and bases by change in colour or odour.

(a) Why do acids like HNO3 show acidic character in aqueous solution while solution of
a compound like glucose do not show acidic character?
(b) What do you understand by the term ‘alkali’? Give an example.
(c) Identify the gas that gets formed when 2ml of concentrated sulphuric acid is added to 1g of
solid sodium chloride taken in a clean dry test tube. Will this gas change the colour of dry
blue litmus paper or moist blue litmus paper? Give reason in support of your answer.

OR

(c) While diluting an acid, why is it recommended that the acid should be added to water and
not water to the acid? How is the concentration of hydronium ions (H3O+) affected when a
solution of an acid is diluted?

38. A pencil immersed in water appears bent at the air - water interface due to refraction of light. 4
Refraction or bending of light takes place as it goes from one medium to another. The extent of
bending is governed by the speed of light in the given medium, which further depends on the
refractive indices of the two media. More the difference between the refractive indices of the
two media, more will be the bending.

(a) Define absolute refractive index of a medium.


(b) The refractive index of diamond is found to be 2.42. What does it indicate?
(c) The refractive indices of glass and ice are 1.52 and 1.31 respectively. Compare the speed of
light in the two media. Justify your answer.

OR

(c) The refractive index of water with respect to glass is 4/3. Calculate the refractive index of
glass with respect to water.

39. A student set up four test tubes A, B, C and D to study gaseous exchange in aquatic organisms. 4
Each tube contained pond water and few drops of a pH indicator which turns yellow if CO2
concentration is high. The student placed some pond weed in tube B and a snail in tube C. In
tube D he kept a snail and some pond weed. The tubes were then left in bright sunlight for 6-7
hours.

Answer the following questions.


(a) Will the colour of the solution in test tube D change during night? Justify.
(b) Write the equation for photosynthesis.
(c) Will there be any change in the colour of the solution in test tubes B and C respectively on
keeping them in sunlight for 6-7 hours? Give reason for your answer.

OR

(c) Photosynthesis and respiration are reactions that complement each other. Justify.
