Malbeth

1- King Duncas was a good man and a find King of Scotland. However, Duncan is perhaps too
trusting because he fails to imagine that Macbeth is plotting to kill him and take his
throne.
2- Macbeth is an ambitious man. He starts the play as Thane of Glamis, but is told by the
witches that he will soon be declared Thane of Cawdor and later King of Scotland. His
ambition is awakened by Lady Macbeth who suggests to kill Duncan. Immediately after
killing Duncan, he seems terrified that he cannot be forgiven for his actions. However, he
becomes more and more willing to do anything to achieve his ambitions, even having his
former friend Banquo killed. He becomes more arrogant and tyrannical after being told by
the witches that he cannot be killed by anyone “of woman born”. His arrogance proves to
be his downfall, and he is finally killed by Macduff.
3- Lady Macbeth is stronger, more ruthless, and more ambitious than her husband. It is she
who suggests to Macbeth that they should kill Duncan in order to make the witches’
prophecy come true. she helps her husband recover from his fear after he kills Duncan,
and helps the cover up. But as Macbeth grows more and more used to being a tyrant
following Duncan’s murder, Lady Macbeth suffers more and more from guilt.
She goes mad and finally kills herself.
Lady Macbeth think that her husband lacks the ruthlessness and ambition necessary to
seize the crown. Lady Macbeth fears her husband is too kind to murder the king so she
manipulates him.
Lady Macbeth begins a slow slide into madness just as ambition affects her more strongly
than Macbeth before the crime.
4- Macduff is a loyal thane in Duncan’s service. He is completely loyal to Duncan and his son
Malcolm. He discovers Duncan’s body, and he soon becomes suspicious of Macbeth. He is
inoortante in the play because he is finally able to kill Macbeth as he was, as the witches’
prophecy stated, “from his mother’s womb untimely ripped”. Macduff is the main
antagonist of the play because he is aligned against Macbeth, the protagonist, and
eventually kills him.
5- They are described like three strange shapes, black and darke. During the play, the
"Macbeth" witches make the following prophesies: Macbeth will become Thane of
Cawdor and eventually King of Scotland and Banquo’s children will become kings.
