Introductory Message

Welcome to TLE 10 – HE (Hairdressing II)!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of Sagay City and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas
through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is
developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible
adults) in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education
Curriculum.

The Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to guide the

learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge, and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For learning facilitator:

The TLE 10 – HE (Hairdressing II) Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the
teaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency
(MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This
will be made available to the learners with the references/links to ease the
independent learning.

For the learner:

The TLE 10 – HE (Hairdressing II) Activity Sheet is developed to help you

continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides you
with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an active
learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the activities
and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on the agreed
schedule.

SPECIAL EFFECTS USED IN HAIRSTYLING

Wigs and Hair Extensions

1. Clip-in extensions - the best option for someone
who would like to try extensions for the first time
without commitment, possible damage to the
natural hair or major cost.

2. Hair weaving - involves weaving or braiding

extension hair into the roots of the natural hair.

3. Hair bonding - involves gluing a weft of extension

hair onto the roots of the natural hair. Hair bonding
is ideal for adding length before a wedding or
special occasion. Bonded extensions typically last
a week if you do not shampoo, and they can be
removed entirely with an oil-based bond remover
designed for this purpose.

4. Heat seal extension - used exclusively with

synthetic extension hair. The synthetic hair is first
braided into and wrapped around the natural hair.
Then a low temperature heat is applied to the
synthetic fibers to shrink them down and form a
seal that will secure the extension hair in place. The heat seal will last for
approximately four months.

5. Micro-link extensions - tiny links, either

clear or matched to your hair color, are used
to attach extensions using this technique.
These products may also be referred to as
micro-sleeves or shells. Micro-lick
extensions are ideal for fine, straight, and
over-processed hair, and the links can be used in
as many as four applications.

6. Ultrasonic extensions - applied using

keratin-based polymer and an ultrasonic
wave. These are quite popular because this
cold-fusion technique will not damage natural
hair as heat and chemical methods do. This
method lasts up to six months and produced
excellent results that appear natural-even at
the front of the scalps.

Wigs
 Wigs should closely match client’s own hair color for a natural look.
 Real hair is more expensive but can be processed; however, it is
important to find out what was already done to the hair so as not to
weaken it further.
 Synthetic hair is easy to clean, hard-wearing, and inexpensive
compared to real, although it can not be processed and it can look false.
 Advice client not to keep the wig on the head longer than needed, but
always allow their own hair and scalp to breath, as the wig will trap
moisture and heat.
 The placing of the wig is very important and should be wrapped with
natural hair from the hairline to help avoid the hairline to help conceal
and match the style.

Cost of Service Package in a Salon

The clients should be informed as to the outcome of the service, the
products to be used, and the cost of the service. To do this, you must be able
to calculate it like charge for the salon service. If the salon has staff with
varying level of competence, they may be allowed extra time to complete
certain services; however, you need to be aware of this if you are to pass this
information to the clients.
Below shows a simple way on how to compute the costing of a certain
hair service:
Cost= Expenses + Labor(40% of Expenses)
Markup= Cost × Percentage
Service Fee= Cost + Markup %

Example: Clip-In Extension Hair Extension Service

Hair extension- ₱500.00
Labor - ₱200.00
Markup 15% - (500+200)*0.15= 105
Service Fee - 700+105= 805
Clip-On Hair Extension Service Fee is ₱805.00

Products and Services

Usually, the things listed in the salon’s price list are the services offered
in the salon. However, the services you provide often change over time
because the client’s expectations and requirements also change. Let the
client understand the features and benefits of the products and services
before successfully promoting them.
The products and services that the salon provides should differ from
that of another salon and will depend upon the skills and abilities of the salon
staff. Whatever the setup of the salon is, it is essential to remain aware of the
changes and developments to the products and services that you provide.

Packaging and Marketing Services

As a hairstylist, make sure to familiarize yourself with all the services
that the salon can offer to clients. It is important to show lots of enthusiasm
about products and services that you are promoting, as this will hold the
client’s interest.
