Glagol biti – or verb to be is an irregular verb. You’ll learn it by repetition and by using it in
sentences. Try making simple sentences by combining it with the words you know, for example: Ja
sam žena. Ti si muškarac. Ja nisam student.

Ja se zovem Magdalena. On se zove Ivan. Ona se zove Ivana.
Zvati se (to be named, to be called) is a reflexive verb. You have to use it with the reflexive
pronoun se.
Zovem se means something like “I’m being called”, or: “people call me”.
Ja se zovem (I am named)
Ti se zoveš (You are named)
Drago mi je means “Nice to meet you” or “I’m glad” (for whatever reason)
Žao mi je means “I’m sorry” or “I apologize”.
