Note
For information on installation of the Oracle Database Server, refer to the Admistration Guide.
The sections that follow will guide you through the Tecnomatix installation process. If some parts of the
system are already functional, refer only to the sections that describe the required installation procedures.
Note
• When performing installation, you require administration rights. Therefore, when launching the
installation, right-click the installation file and select Run as administrator.
• Perform installation directly from the installation file on the installation DVD by launching Setup.exe.
• Throughout the Tecnomatix installation, before proceeding to a subsequent section of the installation,
you should verify that the component you just installed is working properly. For example, make sure
that the database is functional before proceeding to eMServer installation.
• The default installation folder is <Program Files>\Tecnomatix_<VERSION>.
◦ In a 64bit setup, the setup program creates a folder named eMPower and nests it under the
installation folder. The 64bit setup files are stored in eMPower. If you install a client application on
the same machine, the setup program creates a folder named eMPower32 and also nests it under
the installation folder. The 32bit setup files for the client application are stored in eMPower32.
◦ If you select an installation path that does not end with a Tecnomatix folder, the setup program
automatically creates a folder named Tecnomatix and nests it under the installation folder. For
example, when performing a StandAlone 64bit installation under C:\apps:
◊ The installation folder is C:\apps\Tecnomatix_<VERSION>.
◊ 64bit files are stored under C:\apps\Tecnomatix_<VERSION>\eMPower.
◊ 32bit files are stored under C:\apps\Tecnomatix_<VERSION>\eMPower32.
2. Workflow
Three-tier installation
In the three-tier installation, the Oracle database is installed on its own hardware platform. The eMServer
is also installed on its own hardware platform and consists of the Oracle client and the eMServer. The
Client applications are then installed on the end-user machines.
Follow the steps below to complete the installation of the eMServer tiers:
Procedure
1. Install and configure the Oracle database (tier 1), as described in the Oracle Server Installation
section in the Tecnomatix Administration documentation, according to the Oracle compatibility
matrix - Tecnomatix database prerequisites .
2. Install the eMServer.
3. Configure the eMServer and perform various administrative tasks, as described in the Schema
Administration section of the Tecnomatix Administration documentation.
4. Install the various client applications to complete the installation of the client tier (tier 3).
The eMServer processes are now up and running, and users can log in to the different client applications
and begin working.
• From the Tecnomatix setup DVD, perform the standard (English) installation of Process Simulate or
Process Designer.
• From the setup DVD, open the Add-Ons\Localization folder.
• Run the .msi file for the language in which you wish to operate the Tecnomatix application. If you
installed more than one application, the language change applies to all of them.
Note
◦ For Windows 10, it is necessary to run the setup as an administrator. You can right-click to open a
command prompt using Run as Administrator, and run the .msi from the window that opens.
◦ Make sure that the Beta Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support checkbox in the
Administrative Language settings is not checked.
◦ Japanese
• From Tecnomatix Doctor, set the language in the Change Language dialog described in the Tecnomatix
Administration documentation.
Compact installation
In the compact installation, the Oracle database is installed on its own hardware platform. The eMServer is
installed on a separate hardware platform, and includes the Oracle client. The client applications are also
installed on this machine.
After you have installed and configured the Oracle database (tier 1), the next step is to install the
components of the eMServer hardware platform (tier 2), as follows:
Procedure
1. Install Oracle client according to the Oracle compatibility matrix - Tecnomatix database
prerequisites.
2. Install the client and server, as described in Installing Tecnomatix Applications.
3. Configure the eMServer and perform various administrative tasks, as described in the Schema
Administration section of the Tecnomatix Administration documentation.
The eMServer processes are now up and running, and users can log in to the different client applications
and begin working.
In the full client-server installation, all components are installed on a single hardware platform. This
includes the Oracle database and the client/server applications. After you have installed and configured the
Oracle database, Oracle client and ODP.NET, the install the following components of the configuration:
Procedure
1. Install Oracle according to the Oracle compatibility matrix - Tecnomatix Database Prerequisites.
2. Install the client and server, as described in Installing Tecnomatix Applications.
The eMServer processes are now up and running, and users can log in to the different client applications
and begin working.
Note
Setup requires that .NET framework 4.8 or above is installed. You can download it from https://
dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework.
Note
Limited support: The Operating System is no longer used in development and no support is available
from the vendor. Siemens Digital Industries Software will attempt to duplicate on a current supported
version. An Operating System upgrade is required for full support.
When performing an installation, the following third-party applications will be installed automatically,
depending on which Tecnomatix applications are installed:
Setup Prerequisites
* This setup is being installed during Tecnomatix installation and not as prerequisite.
• For silent installations, the MSI log name and path are set as an MSI_LOGFILE_VAR parameter to the
setup (e.g., set MSI_LOGFILE_VAR=%TEMP%\Tecno13.1.1_64bit_MSI_Install.log).
• For regular installations, the MSI log file is created under the %TEMP% with a
random name in the MSIXXXXX.LOG format. When setup is complete it creates the
Tecnomatix_V<Version>_Install_<date>-<time>_msi.log shortcut to the MSI log under <INSTALL
DIR>\Setuplogs. In addition, the path to the MSI log file can be found in the
Tecnomatix_V<Version>_Install_Summary.log file.
Procedure
1.
Insert the Tecnomatix DVD into the DVD drive. The DVD Browser is displayed.
Side-by-side installation
When installing the Tecnomatix suite of applications, you can install new client setup types while retaining
your current ones. This is known as Side-by-Side Installation and is useful if you want to work with different
Tecnomatix versions for multiple customers or to debug your data by running it under different software
versions. One version is always active and this version is launched by default until you change the active
version.
You can install multiple eMServer-based or multiple Process Simulate on Teamcenter versions. For
example, you can install an earlier eMServer-based version (e.g., 12.1, 12.1.3) and then eMServer-based
version 2402 on the same machine. Similarly, you can install Process Simulate on Teamcenter version
12.1.3 and then version 2402 on the same machine.
Note
The Common Folder is a location to be used by all Tecnomatix versions. The Tecnomatix Version
Selector is installed in this location.
Procedure
1. To access the selector, right-click the Tecnomatix Version Selector icon and select Run as
administrator.
Current active Tecnomatix version is a read-only field and notifies you which version is currently
active.
Note
You can also view the currently active version by running mpmversion from the command prompt.
2. If you wish to change to another version, right-click the Tecnomatix Version Selector icon and select
Run as administrator. The Tecnomatix Version Selector appears.
3. Set Change active Tecnomatix version to to the desired version and click OK.
The system switches to the version you selected. This may take a few minutes, after which the system
displays a success message and offers you the option to view the installation log file.
Note
• You can only uninstall the active version. Uninstalling a version that is not currently-active
may result in an unstable system. Therefore, before running the uninstall procedure, use the
Tecnomatix Version Selector to activate the version you wish to uninstall.
• If you remove the older version of two side by side installations (older than 12.1.1),
the remaining (newer) version does not automatically become the active version. Use the
Tecnomatix Version Selector to switch to it.
The configuration provided by the Client/Server installation supplies a complete Tecnomatix environment,
containing both Application server and Client components in a single hardware framework. With this
setup, no separate, additional machine is required for client operations.
Before beginning to install Tecnomatix 2402, make sure that the ODP.NET (including ‘Oracle Data Provider
for .NET’) is installed according to the Oracle compatibility matrix - Tecnomatix Database Prerequisites.
When setting Oracle Home immediately before the Tecnomatix installation, it is recommended to restart
your machine before installing Tecnomatix 2402 to ensure that the path variable is updated.
Note
The Common Folder is a location to be used by all Tecnomatix versions. The Tecnomatix Version
Selector is installed in this location.

After you have completed the eMServer installation and configured the eMServer connections using the
eMServer Administration Tool, the eMServer services are running. The users can then log in to their client
applications and begin working.
An administrator generally logs in to the eMServer in order to perform specific administrative tasks using
the eMServer Administration functionality described in the Administrative and Management Tools section
(such as changing schemas and converting customizations). Since it is not necessary for users to access
eMServer administration functionality, there are various situations where the administrator may want to
have the eMServer available for users, but without logging in as an administrator, such as:
• To get the eMServer up and running quickly (for example, after an electrical power failure).
• To secure his or her workstation from access by others.
The following section describes how to connect to the application server without logging in. This consists
of:
• Defining access and launch permissions from the eMSAgent Properties window.

• In general Tecnomatix uninstall should remove all items (files, folders, registry settings, environment
variables, etc.) created/updated when installing the setup. However, in some circumstances items
will not be removed, for example, if a text file is opened by an application, folders are opened in
Explorer or command line, changes in permissions, install was performed by one user while uninstall
by another, etc. Therefore, this section is included in case Tecnomatix was not successful and some
manual steps are required.
