18. SWOC Analysis
Strengths: This includes our faculty closely being involved in the design and development of curriculum as
per NEP-UGCF. Our faculty members also have diverse specializations. Regular departmental activities are
organized to engage students in contemporary psycho-social issues. Students are also involved in
community-conscious practical work. Both lectures and practicals, focus on the real-life application of skills.
Our alumni is also excelling in diverse fields. Students are enthusiastic and encouraged to do research.
Weaknesses: Our infrastructure has a scope for improvement. Financial constraints do limit possibilities for
practical work and research. There is also a lack of updated technology for testing and experiments. The
teacher-student ratio needs to be improved. Opportunities: We can extend awareness and help with respect
to emerging psycho-social challenges among students and members of other departments. There is also an
opportunity for faculty and students to engage in skill enhancement, aligned with new curriculum. We could
host more programs for community engagement. The popularity of Psychology course among GE, VAC, &
SEC students is an opportunity to be capitalized. We could also engage in training the trainers to deal with
emerging psycho-social issues. The alignment of government programmes with department’s vision. E.g.,
environmental psychology and G20 and stronger collaborations with the alumni body are some other
opportunities for us. Challenges: These include limited research fellowships, funds, and travel allowances
for conferences. We also find it difficult to meet the high demands created by GE, VAC, and SEC aspirants
for Psychology courses. Misperceptions around the discipline and associated professions is a challenge that
we need to actively work against.
19. Future Plans
1. To launch an annual magazine/newsletter of the department showcasing students’ achievements,
research, and other creative output. 2. Developing a digital library database of relevant study material and
learning resources. 3. Strengthening our alumni network. 4. Transforming pedagogies to deal with
adjustment challenges.
