About the SATs Intervention Pack

Our Intervention Packs contain sample lessons that our tutors use with pupils in our

own one to one SATs intervention sessions. At Third Space Learning, we have over

350 lessons for primary school pupils spanning all learning areas of the primary

curriculum. These lessons have been developed by maths curriculum experts and

specialists and then refined over the years from data provided by thousands of

pupils and tutors each week following the lessons.

To give you a taste of what is available in our intervention, and to help pupils in

your school, we have taken a sample of our favourite lessons for our 30 SATs

lessons and brought them into a single pack for you.

Included in the intervention packs are a selection of the notes our tutors use when

teaching each lesson.

The tutor notes for individual slides include

How to use the resources

Each of our lessons in these packs follow the same structure. For our SATs

intervention, the slides start with a title slide followed by a fluency slide and three

sets of SATs style questions.

Each set of SATs style questions contain one question, one support slide and one

similar question for pupils to apply their knowledge.

Fluency

The fluency slide provides pupils with an opportunity to solve fluency questions

based on the content covered in the lesson. This also provides pupils with the

opportunity to answer arithmetic SATs style questions.

Let’s try this SATs style question

The pupil is presented with a SATs style question to complete. Pupils are

encouraged to initially attempt to solve the calculation independently. If they need

more support, this is provided through the ‘let’s go through this together’ slide.

Let’s go through this together

This slide guides pupils through the steps necessary to solve the SATs style

question from the previous slide. Use this slide if pupils cannot independently and

correctly answer the question on the ‘let’s try this SATs style question’

independently. These ‘let’s go through this together’ slides will include support

such as place value charts and bar models to help pupils understand how to solve

the problem. This also provides pupils will valuable skills they can apply to other

reasoning or problem solving questions.

Write these masses in order, starting with the lightest.

3kg 1,500g
0.6kg 700g

600,000 600,000 600,000 600,000

Convert all the measurements to the same unit.

There are 1,000 grams in a kilogram.

Let’s convert them all into grams, so that we can compare.

3kg 0.6kg

0.6 x = g
3 x 1kg 600 600

6,000 6,000

Write your final answers in the boxes provided giving the measurements as written in the question.

The ‘try another one’ slide presents pupils with a similar question to the question

on the ‘let’s try this SATs style question’ page. Pupils are encouraged to apply their

understanding from the previous slides when answering this slide.
