Spirit Of The Union

Every year the United Arab Emirates National Day is celebrated on the
2nd of December. Dubbed the Spirit of the Union, the date marks the
unification of all seven Emirates into one country. From firework
displays, parades and beautiful ceremonies, the UAE National Day is a
time when people in the country gather to celebrate.
On 2 December 1971 the rulers of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Al-Ain,
Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain agreed to unite as one nation. Under the
guidance of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the country's
first president, the United Arab Emirates emerged. In February 1972,
Ras Al Khaimah decided to join and become the seventh Emirate. Every
year since then, UAE National Day has been celebrated across the
country.
From homes and streets to people and cars, the colors of the national
flag are everywhere during UAE National Day. The colors of red, white,
black, and green decorate every aspect of Emirati life, while flags are
displayed on top of buildings across the country. As a public holiday,
UAE National Day brings families and friends together for a day of
celebration.
In every Emirate the local corniche is always at the heart of the action.
Colorful carnivals are all over the waterfront as colorful floats shine
with portraits of Sheikh Zayed. To end a day of celebration, people go
to the streets to watch the fireworks across the Emirates.
In Global Village, a vast crowd gathers to sing the national anthem of
UAE, along with the Dubai Mall where the Ayala dancers perform. The
Burj Khalifa usually has an impressive light show inspired by the UAE
flag, while the Dubai Fountains have a show choreographed to the
national anthem. For the ultimate spectacle, Burj Al Arab backdropped
fireworks show every night.
This celebration contributes to develop fraternity and love among the
citizens as well as people from different nations sharing our soil. This
national event further unites us to achieve great visions of our leaders
to prosper as a peaceful and dynamic country, and to establish
brotherhood, fraternity and love among the entire humankind living in
different corners of the world.
