Kalibo Municipal Hall, United Veterans Avenue, Kalibo, 5600 Aklan, Philippines

ATTN: Hon. Neil I. Candelario, Poblacion, Kalibo Barangay Captain

SUBJECT: University of Tokyo Master's Thesis: Official Fieldwork Request

Dear Hon. Sucro,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am Georgina Mae C. Onagan, a 2nd Year Master's Student at the
University of Tokyo International Program for Agricultural Development Studies (IPADs) under the
Global Fisheries and Science laboratory. I am from the Philippines and intend to conduct my master's
research on the fishing value chain activities, post-harvest conditions, and livelihood constraints of the
small-scale fisheries in New Washington, Aklan, as my case study. The research will be conducted from
March 04 to 16, 2024.

The research will be done through questionnaire interviews with small-scale fishermen in New
Washington’s local government unit (LGU) areas of Pinamuk-an, Poblacion, and Mabilo and key
informant interviews (KIIs) with distributors, sellers, and intermediaries in New Washington and Kalibo. I
will also get Aklan State University New Washington Campus support for field assistants and work areas.
With all of these said, I humbly request to conduct my interviews in your municipality and for your
support and assistance in my fieldwork (i.e., contacting small-scale fishermen, distributors, sellers, etc.,
interviewees) and for your help in relaying my request to the Poblacion, Kalibo’s Barangay Captain, Hon.
Neil I. Candelario.

I am also attaching my Research Deck and Questionnaire for your reference. I am very grateful for all
your institution's generous help and support. Thank you so much for your time and effort.

Sincerely,

Georgina Mae C. Onagan
