T
Recommended storage condition: Temperature: 5 – 35 ˚C, Relative humidity 60 % or less

J
(Under packaging like the state of JST shipment)

J S
Keep off direct sunlight, places exposing to such corrosive gas as industrial gas (generate from a stove
and whatnot) and ammonia gas (generate from a toilet and whatnot) and dusty place.
Also, keep the storage room from condensation.

T
Note that the resin molding part may break due to transportation and handling, such as processing and

mating, under dry or low temperature condition.

J
After unpacking, return the products in the original package to store.

2-2 Storing the crimped contacts

Not leaving the crimped contact to stand in a place exposed to high humidity and direct sunshine, and not
placing them directly on the ground. Keep them in a clean storage room.

Before crimping operation, be sure to check the combination of the contact, wires, and the crimping dies

Check the below points for correct crimping at the beginning and the middle of crimping operation.

5-1 Wire strip length

S T J
J
Referring to the reference value of the wire strip length stated below, conduct wire stripping.
As the wire strip length differs depending on wire type and crimping method, decide the best wire
strip length considering each processing condition. When a wire is stripped, do not damage or cut off wire

5-2 Crimp height

S T
J
According to wires to be used, adjust the dials of the applicator to a proper crimp height as below.

When the retainer, VHS-V-1-S, is used, adjust the crimp height of the insulation part to less
than 2.9 mm.

T
When it is 2.9 mm or more, the retainer may not be mountable.

5-5 Precautions for crimping operation

T
 Conduct crimping operation properly and inspect the crimping appearance of the crimped product

S J
with loupe, etc.

J
 Do not crimp with no terminals and do crimping twice, because large burrs at the crimped part may
easy to occur, leading to abrasion of the crimping die quickly.

T
 As cutting residues (powder), etc. adhered to the crimping die part affects the life of the dies, clean
around the crimping part occasionally and conduct appropriate crimping.

S T
JS  When chips or excessive roughness are observed on the crimping die, replace it without delay.

 As the abrasion of the crimping die and insufficient adjustment of the applicator may cause defective
J
T
crimping appearance, do not fail to conduct daily inspection.

 When crimping operation is conducted with the wire-holding spring damaged or extracted, the wire
conductors may come off or the wire barrel may bite the wire insulation.

J S
T
5-6 Precautions for handling the crimped contact

S
As the crimped contact before inserting into the housing is subject to deformation, etc. by external forces,

J
pay careful attention to the following 3 points for the handling:

 Protect the contacts by wrapping them with thick paper to prevent deformation, and adhesion of
foreign matters, and keep them in boxes.

S T
 Do not place the contacts in humid area, under direct sunshine and directly on the floor.
Store them in a clean room with ordinary temperature and humidity.

J
 Do not stack too much quantity of the crimped contacts nor place anything on them, because
the weight of themselves may cause the deformation of the contact and troubles such as defective

T
contacting and other defects.

6. Harness Assembly Operation

J
T
Harness assembly operation is a very important process to decide the connector performance and
the harness quality. Careful operation is required for the harness assembly as well as the said crimping

S
operation.

6-1 Inserting the crimped contact into the housing

 Insert the contact straight into the housing without prying.

J
T
 Insert the contact into the housing without stopping up to the innermost.

S
J
When it is fully inserted, there is an audible sound with a click and a sense of fit.

 Check secure locking per each insertion by pulling a wire softly to check that the contact does not
come off the housing. Besides, check whether there is the backlash in the direction of the insertion
axis.

T
(When a wire is pulled with too much force, the contact lance may be deformed and the contact may

S J
come off of the housing.)

J
6-2 Inserting the retainer

T
 Insert the retainer after all the contacts are fully inserted into the housing.

T
(The retainer is not the contact insertion jig. Insert it after the insertion of all the contact

S
 Turn the retainer so that the comb part comes to the wire side.

J S
J  Insert the retainer parallel to the housing without stopping so that all locking completes
simultaneously.

T
There is an audible sound with a click after locking.

 Visually check secure locking of the retainer.

6-3 Binding position of the harness

J
T
When the contacts are bound after inserting into the housing, bind them not around the housing entrance
but at the place approx. 50 mm away from the housing so as to keep the backlash of the contact inside

S
the housing.

J
If the binding position is too close to the housing entrance, a load concentrates on one circuit (especially
end circuits), which may result in wire cutting.

J
How to Extract the Crimped Contact from the Housing In Case of Mis-Insertion

T
7-1 Notes on extracting the contact (the retainer)

S T
S J
When the crimped contact is inserted into an improper circuit hole, follow the items below:

J
 Do not reuse the housing, the contact, and the retainer but use the new ones.

 When the contact and the retainer that have been inserted in an improper circuit are extracted from

T
the housing and reused for some reason, observe the following items.

S
(Refer to the next item for how to extract the contact and the retainer from the housing.)

 Only a specified person does the operation.

 In case of reusing the contact, the reuse should be once.
When it has such an abnormality as scratches in reusing, use the new one immediately.
Do not reuse the housing and the retainer.
J
T
 After the modification completes, be sure to check the inserted contact.

S
J
7-2 How to extract the retainer

 Insert a jig like below into the retainer lock part, and lift the retainer lock to release.

same as the lance.

S T
JS  Pull out the wire while pushing the lance, and the contact can be extracted.
J
S T
J
T
How to raise the housing lance

S
Insert a flat metal piece like a knife between the lance and the contact, and raise the lance. (Lance

J
height: approx. 0.6 mm)
Do not use something like a needle to raise the lance, since it enters the hole to disengage the lance,
which may result in the deformation of the mating part.
