Plush Cat
Plush Cat
This pattern does not contain the basics of crocheting, but rather requires certain crochet skills. The complexity
of the description is INTERMEDIATE.
This pattern is for personal use only. Please do not distribute, reproduce, translate into other languages, share
or sell this pattern.
You may publish (on the network) and sell finished items made with this pattern, but only in small quantities,
provided you credit me as the original designer.
Supplies:
- Yarn: Velvet yarn - Himalaya Dolphin Baby or YarnArt Dolce, color – grey (~1.5 skein). And white Alize Softy yarn
in 2! threads (x2). Smooth white yarn to embroider semicircle beside the eyes and pink yarn to embroider a
constriction stitch.
You can also use velvet yarn instead of Alize Softy, but I still recommend using Alize Softy yarn in 2 threads.
! This will make the toy look even nicer and more interesting.
The size of the cat is about 30cm.
- Hook №3.5 or №4 (3.5 or 4mm).
- Pink fleece (or plush) fabric for ears.
- The plastic safety joints or cotter pins and joint disks: I used the disks 25mm in diameter for the arms (4pcs),
35mm in diameter for the legs (4pcs) and 35mm in diameter for the head (2pcs), cotter pins 2.5х28mm (5pcs),
washers (10pcs).
To attach the moving parts I use cotter pin method, video - https://youtu.be/KEs8-ejHZd4. This method can
! be replaced with any type of mount you are used to.
Abbreviations:
MR - magic ring;
in FL - work in the front loops;
in BL - work in the back loops;
ch - chain stitch;
slst - slip stitch;
slst-dec – make decrease using slip stitch (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/751327150343819876/)
sc - single crochet;
inc - increase;
dec - decrease;
hdc - half double crochet;
dc - double crochet;
hdc-inc – half double crochet increase;
(sc, inc) х N - repeat instructions ‘N’ times;
(sc+hdc) – crochet sc and hdc in the same chain base (in one chain);
ch to climb
sc*in base of ‘ch to climb’*– crochet additional sc at the end of the row
(into slst from closing previous round);
base of ch to climb
(slst from closing
previous rnd)
2sc*to correct marker position* - crochet additional 2sc (two ‘extra sc’) to move the beginning of crocheting; believe
that now the new rows begin from this position (eg https://www.pinterest.com/pin/751327150343355830/);
Pick up 2ch and use the 2nd ch from the hook instead of MR.
Don’t climb to the next turn with a chain. To align the edge a little (for example, when switching from one color of
yarn to another), you can crochet several slip stitches at the end of the row.
Check your crochet pattern more often. If you still make a mistake, carefully frog back because otherwise you’ll
end up with funny dints and bumps even the velvet yarn won’t be able to hide.
It is more comfortable to attach the details of the toy, crocheted with velvet yarn, using a hook, carefully pull the
tail of the thread between the stitches. You can also attach the details using a needle with a large eye with a
strong thread in color (not velvet yarn). This tip is also suitable for closing holes at the end of knitting.
Sleep stitches in the next rows will help us form the curve of the arm. Crochet slst working in front loops.
3r. – first we crochet as usual along the loops: in FL: 3slst, sc, 2hdc
Now in the next loop we form a claw, for this we crochet:
One hdc (grey color), then in the same loop using white thread (Alize Softy х2) yarn over and pull the loop.
Result: one grey and 2 white loops on the hook. Now yarn over (grey thread) and pull the yarn through 3 loops.
First claw is ready!
EXAMPLE for you with smooth yarn over pull the loop pull grey yarn through 3 loops
thread to see better
The second claw in the next loop is crocheted in the same way –
One hdc (grey color), then in the same loop using white thread (Alize Softy х2) yarn over and pull the loop.
Result: one grey and 2 white loops on the hook. Now yarn over (grey thread) and pull the yarn through 3 loops.
Second claw is ready!
The third claw in the next loop is crocheted in the same way –
One hdc (grey color), then in the same loop using white thread (Alize Softy х2) yarn over and pull the loop.
Result: one grey and 2 white loops on the hook. Now yarn over (grey thread) and pull the yarn through 3 loops.
Third claw is ready!
Then to the end of the row we crochet as usual along the loops: 3hdc [15]
Put arm mount between 16th and 17th rows. The elbows are directed slightly to the sides.
! Use joined round for white part (climb to the next turn with a chain).
Change your yarn to velvet, grey color. Now you can use continuous rounds.
1r. – in BL: 3hdc-inc, inc, 3sc, inc, 3sc, inc [18]
In the next row we will make claws, be careful.
2r. – first we crochet as usual along the loops: sc, hdc-inc
Now in the next loop we form a claw, for this we crochet:
Using white thread (Alize Softy х2) yarn over and pull the loop and again yarn over and pull the loop.
Result: one grey and 4 white loops on the hook. Now yarn over (grey thread) and pull the yarn through 5 loops.
In the same loop crochet one hdc (grey color). First claw is ready!
The second claw in the next loop is crocheted in the same way –
Using white thread (Alize Softy х2) yarn over and pull the loop and again yarn over and pull the loop.
Result: one grey and 4 white loops on the hook. Now yarn over (grey thread) and pull the yarn through 5 loops.
In the same loop crochet one hdc (grey color). Second claw is ready!
The third claw in the next loop is crocheted almost in the same way (only without grey hdc) –
Using white thread (Alize Softy х2) yarn over and pull the loop and again yarn over and pull the loop.
Result: one grey and 4 white loops on the hook. Now yarn over (grey thread) and pull the yarn through 5 loops.
Third claw is ready!
Then to the end of the row we crochet as usual along the loops:
hdc-inc ,4sc, inc, 2sc, inc, 4sc [24]
Left leg: 16r. – sc*to correct marker position*, 3sc, dec, 6sc, dec, 3sc, dec [15]
Put leg mount between 14th and 15th rows.
17r. – 7dec, sc [8]
Finish stuffing. Close the hole, fasten and cut off.
It is more comfortable to sew using sewing thread in several folds or with thin yarn, i.e. do not use a plush
! thread, BUT anyway leave a tail of the thread, we hide it later inside the body.
Front part.
Cut the inner part for the ear from pink fleece (paper pattern for this we make while crocheting the back part of
the ear). Step back ~4-5mm from the edge and mark 11 points. Embroider the seam ‘backstitch’ at these points,
so we have 10 stitches.
Crochet along the stitches using white yarn (Alize Softy х2): 3sc, (sc+hdc), (hdc+dc), (dc+hdc), (hdc+sc), 3sc
Front part is ready. Leave the tails of the thread (we will later hide them inside the head).
Attach 2 parts together, crochet along the edge use back loop from white part and both loops from grey part:
4r. – ch to climb, 6sc, inc, 7sc
It is more comfortable to sew using sewing thread in several folds or with thin yarn, i.e. do not use a plush

13r. – 4sc, dec, 8sc, (dec, 4sc)х3, dec, 8sc, dec, 4sc [42]
14r. – 42sc
Put legs mount between 8th and 9th rows.
15r. – 4sc, dec, 7sc, (dec, 3sc)х3, dec, 7sc, dec, 3sc [36]
16r. – 36sc
Stuff with a filler (only bottom part of the body).
17r. – 2sc, (dec, 4sc)х5, dec, 2sc [30]
18r. – 30sc
! Use joined round for white muzzle (climb to the next turn with a chain).
3r. – ch to climb, 8sc, 3inc, 4sc, 2inc, sc*in base of ‘ch to climb’* [24]
4r. – ch to climb, 11sc, inc, 8sc, inc, 2sc [26]
5r. – ch to climb, 25sc [26]
Muzzle is finished. Fasten off, hide the end.
Change your yarn to velvet, grey color. Now you must use continuous rounds.
Pay attention to the scheme. We start at point ‘A’ (it is located at the bottom of the
muzzle in the center, I got it on the 18th sc of the 5th row). А
6r. – 8sc, (hdc, hdc-inc)х5, hdc, 7sc [31]
7r. – 7sc, (hdc, hdc-inc)х9, 6sc [40]
8r. – 8sc, hdc, (hdc-inc, 2hdc)х4, hdc, (hdc-inc, 2hdc)х3, hdc-inc, hdc, 7sc [48]

19r. – 6sc, (dec, 7sc)x5, dec, sc [48]
20r. – 2sc, (dec, 6sc)x5, dec, 4sc [42]
21r. – (5sc, dec)x6 [36]
Put head mount between 15th and 16th rows. Focus on the first decrease in 18th row.
STOP! If you use safety eyes/nose now you need to make sculpting and attach eyes (see “Make face”) before
! finish crocheting the head. After making face you can continue crocheting.
Sculpting steps:
begin from point 1 from point 1 to point 2 from point 2 back to point 1 from point 1 to point 3
Underlip:
