2 Introduction
The inspection and maintenance procedure is based on API – Recommended practice and
Blohm+Voss Oil Tools experience in the design of slips.
This recommended practice outlines are procedures for methods of inspection and
maintenance of Power Slips to prevent injury to personnel and irreparable damage to
equipment.
In the event of problems, which cannot be solved with the aid of this manual, please contact
one of the addresses list at the end of this documentation.
The Blohm+Voss Type PSH 150 hydraulic operated Power Slip is designed for enhanced
safety by eliminating personnel on the Rig floor, when operations are required the use of
slips.
The PSH 150 can be operated by using a Control Unit at a safe distance from the Rotary
Table. In case of a loss of hydraulic pressure, a safety device is installed to prevent the lifting
arm from engaging. The Power Slip accommodates B+V Standard ( Rotary ) Slips in the
range of 2 3/8” to 7”, as well as most other brands.

4.2.1 Venting
At the beginning of work wear your personnel protection equipment. Especially leak oil under
pressure can cause severe personnel injury to the eyes (use eye protection).
The hydraulic system of delivered Power Slip is vented. Be aware that the hydraulic
connection hoses (A,B and C) should be vented before connecting it to the power slip.
If air has collected in the system, it can be discharged with the aid of the fittings near the
couplings.

In case during the commissioning no function or incomplete function occurs the following
hydraulic settings can be checked. Any change of the settings were allowed only by B+V
adjustments may result in damage or severe personal injury.
4.2.6.1 Warning
Before any work is carried out wear your personal protection equipment. Especially leak oil
under pressure can cause severe personal injury to the eyes.
For adjustment work ensure that the quick disconnect couplings between the tool and control
console are properly connected.
Function:
Pressure will be applied to the hydraulic operated Power Slip by using the hydraulic supply.
Before operation of the PSH can be started, it must be properly installed into the rotary table.
To raise the slip, line B is pressurized and to lower the slip, line A is pressurized with the
hydraulic pressure specified in section 3.2.
The hydraulic system has been optimally preset by Blohm+Voss GmbH and should not be
changed.
For the PSH with Feedback, a roller pushbutton valve is actuated in the upper and lower end
position of the jib. Both valves pass the volume flow into the C line. Depending on where the
pressure is applied, the operator receives a signal from the control unit allowing him to see
whether the jib is up or down.
16
TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION PSH 150
It’s possible to regulate the engaging and extending speed or forces of hydraulic cylinders.
That’s require when the flow rate or working pressure is lower than the adjusted power
required.
Procedure:
1. Disconnecting the 4 fixing screws and remove the protection cover of hydraulic block

6 Inspections
Visual Field Inspection of the Power Slip PSH 150 in an operating condition should be made
by the crew or the sup visor on a regular daily basis.
6.3 Inspection
A thorough inspection should be carried out periodically (every 3 months) or special
circumstances may require.
At the beginning of inspection, disconnect the hydraulic system and remove all components
(dirt, paint, lubricating oil, scale, etc.) from surface by a suitable method.
After a field inspection, it is advisable to record the extent of testing and testing results.
If cracks, excessive wear etc. is recognised, contact Blohm + Voss Oil Tools or an
authorised service company.
Should internal or external leakage reach an unacceptable high level, contact Blohm + Voss
Oil Tools or an authorised service company.
- The PSH 150 should be dismantled and inspected in a suitably equipped facility for
excessive wear, cracks, flaws or deformations.
- When need is shown in a field inspection, dismantle the PSH 150 and arrange an
inspection in a suitably equipped facility.
- Springs should be carefully visually inspected for excessive wear and obvious weakness.
