Assessing the Impact of Stress on the Academic Performance of High

School Students in NESDA

Stress is a prevalent issue affecting students globally, with its impact

varying across different regions. In the Philippines, stress among high school

students is a growing concern due to various academic, societal, and personal

pressures. Understanding the effects of stress on students' academic

performance is crucial for implementing effective support mechanisms.

On a global scale based on study conducted by Smith, A. (2018), have

shown that high levels of stress can lead to decreased academic performance,

affecting students' cognitive abilities, memory retention, and overall well-being.

Academic institutions worldwide are increasingly recognizing the importance of

addressing students' mental health to enhance learning outcomes.

According to the study at Malolos, Bulacan Philippines, addressing

Mental Health Issues among Filipino Students, research has highlighted the

correlation between stress and academic performance among high school

students. Factors such as heavy workloads, competition, and societal

expectations contribute to the stress experienced by Filipino students,

impacting their ability to excel academically. Numerically, the study stated that

it affects 84 percent of identified stressed students are also classified at the

bottom of performing students.

In the local context of Pantukan, within the National Education System

Development Act framework, a study published were high school students in

Pantukan National High school were the respondents, concluded that


understanding the specific stressors faced by high school students is essential

for tailoring interventions to support their academic success.

By conducting a detailed assessment of stressors and their impact on

students' academic performance in NESDA, educators and policymakers can

develop targeted strategies to understand and promote student well-being.

Research Objectives

The purpose of this study is to assess the Impact of Stress on the

Academic Performance of High School Students in Nueva Estrella Santiago

Dulos Academy Inc.

Especially it aims to answer the following:

1. What is the level of Stress on High School Students in Nueva

Estrella Santiago Dulos Academy Inc. in terms of;

1.1 Self-reported stress levels on a standardized stress scale

1.2 Number of stressful life events experienced

1.3 Frequency of physical symptoms related to stress?

2. What is the level of Academic Performance of High School Students

in Nueva Estrella Santiago Dulos Academy Inc. in terms of;

2.1 Grade Point Average (GPA);

2.2 Class rank or academic standing; and

2.3 Attendance rates and punctuality?


3. Is there a significant relationship between the levels of Stress on the

Academic Performance of High School Students in Nueva Estrella

Santiago Dulos Academy Inc.?

Hypothesis

There is no significant relationship between the levels of Stress and the

level of Academic Performance of High School Students in Nueva

Estrella Santiago Dulos Academy Inc.
