Tutorial 4: Air leakage heat losses.

Answer the question in conjunction with the notes for the lectures about air leakage.

A building has dimensions 80 metres long 40 metres wide and 12 metres high. The
specific air leakage rates at 50 Pascals applied pressure difference are as follows:

Roof: 3.5 m3/hr.m2

Walls: 4.5 m3/hr.m2
Floor: 3.0 m3/hr.m2

Calculate:

- overall air leakage rate from the building at 50 Pascals

- infiltration rate under “normal” conditions
- Rate of infiltration heat loss, assuming an inside outside temperature difference of 20
Degrees Celsius

How much heat loss could be saved if the wall specific air leakage could be reduced to
3.0 m3/hr.m2 at 50 Pascals applied pressure difference?
