OSMOSIS ACTIVITY WORKSHEET

COLOR CHANGING FLOWER

Objectives:

1. Identify the effects of osmosis using coloured water on Spathiphyllum sp. (Peace Lily).
2. State the importance of osmosis in plants.

Materials:

Water Dye or Food Coloring (Violet & Yellow or orange)

2 Glasses/ Jar 2 Spathiphyllum sp. (Peace Lily)

Procedure:

1. Fill each glass with fresh water from the tap. Put 2-5 drops of food coloring into it, one colour each.
2. Got the stalk of a Spathiphyllum sp.at least half an inch such that it fits comfortably in the jar.
3. Leave the flower for at least 1-2 days.
4. Observe the color of the bract (modified leaves) and the movement of the dye within it. Record your observation on the
table below.
