References: Science 7 book, Google.com
Materials: chalk, chalkboard and pictures
III. PROCEDURE
A. ROUTINARY ACTIVITIES
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
 Review
The students will ask about their previous topic about matter and states of matter.

PREPARATION AND MOTIVATION

What is the age of our Earth? How does the scientist determine the age of our Earth?

B. PRESENTATION

The scientific method is the process of objectively establishing facts through testing and
experimentation.
The scientific method uses a series of steps to establish facts or create knowledge. The overall
process is well established, but the specifics of each step may change depending on what is being
examined and who is performing it. The scientific method can only answer questions that can be proven
or disproven through testing.

Steps in Scientific Method

1. Make an observation - The first step is to observe something that you would like to learn about or ask
a question that you would like answered. These can be specific or general.
2. Identifying problem – the second step in scientific investigations is to identify a problem in a given
situation. This problem comes from when a researcher is curious or interested about something he/she
has observed the environment.
3. Forming hypothesis – to answer a question, a hypothesis will be formed. This is an educated guess
regarding the question’s answer. Educated is highlighted because no good hypothesis can be developed
without research into the problem. In other words, you will give temporary solutions to the identified
problem.
4. Testing the Hypothesis/ Experiment – The next step you are going to is to test your hypothesis. Some
hypothesis may be tested simply by further observations or experiment.

Variable – is any factor that can be controlled, changed or measures in an experiment.

Types of Variable
1. Independent – variable that represents a quantity that is being manipulated in an experiment.
2. Dependent - variable that represents a quantity whose value depends on how the independent
variable is manipulated.
3. Controlled – a variable that does not change during in an experiment.

5. Record and analyze the results – make sure to record what is happening as well as the result. Note
changes at specific time intervals or after one set of interval.

6. Draw Conclusions – opportunity to talk about your hypothesis, your experiment, your results and your
final answer to your problem or experiment.

C. Activity
Direction: Fill up the process chart of Scientific Method and explain each process.

IV. EVALUATION

Direction: Read through the following scenarios. Identify & fill in the chart with the Control
Group, the Experimental Group, Independent Variable and Dependent Variable.

Scenario 1. A company wants to test a new dog food that is supposed to help overweight dogs lose
weight. 50 dogs are chosen to get the new food. 50 dogs continue their normal diet. After 1 month,
the dogs are checked to see if they lost any weight.

Scenario 2. A new sunscreen has been developed that is supposed to be more effective at treating
sunburn. 30 participants spray 1 arm with the new formula and spray the other arm with the leading
formula. After 4 hours in the sun their skin is evaluated for redness.

V. ASSIGNMENT

Direction: Make a research about elements that can be found in earth surface.
