❖ Phytochemicals act as natural defense mechanisms in their host plants.

They also provide pigment to the plants.

❖ Provide definite physiological action on the human body.

❖ Bioactive substances include tannins , alkaloids ,carbohydrates ,

terpenoids, steroids and flavonoids. veterinary, agriculture, scientific
research and countless other areas.

❖ Have inhibitory effects on all types of microorganisms in vitro.

❖ An assay is an investigative procedure in laboratory medicine ,

❖ An ornamental plant commonly found in India and elsewhere may
emerge as the source of one of the largest – selling anti cancer drugs
and vinblastine.
❖ Vinblastine is one of the most structurally complex ,medicinally
active natural products in plants.
❖ An erect annual herb grows up to a height of 1meter.Leaves deep
green oblong or obovate , flowers in cymose, axillary clusters , deep
rose or white in colour , fruits cylindrical follicle.
❖ Plant pacifies vitiated pitta, kapha ,diabetes , hypertension ,
leukemia and malignancy , the root is stomachic and tonic.
