SIMPLE PAST
We make the past simple just like the present simple except we use 'did' instead
of 'do / does'. It's really easy because 'did' doesn't change, even with 'he /
she / it'.
There are 2 kinds of verb in the past: regular and irregular verb

REGULAR VERB:
A regular verb is one that conforms to the usual rule for forming its simple past
tense and its past participle.

In English, the "usual" rule is to add "-ed" or "-d" to the base form of the verb to
create the past forms.
PLAY – PLAYED
WORK- WORKED
LOVE- LOVED

IRREGULAR VERB
These verbs don´t need to add ëd¨or ¨d¨ to the end. They are already in past.
The irregular verbs totally change its form from the present or stays at the
same. Examples
RUN- RAN
WRITE- WROTE
CUT- CUT
SWIM- SWAM

SPELLING RULES FOR CREATING THE PAST FORMS OF REGULAR VERBS

For regular verbs, the "simple past tense" and "past particle" are formed like
this:

Add "ed" to most verbs:

 jump > jumped
 paint > painted
If a verb of one syllable ends [consonant-vowel-consonant], double the final
consonant and add "ed":
 chat > chatted
 stop > stopped

If the verb ends "e," just add "d":

 dance- danced
 Love- loved
If the verb ends [consonant + "y"], change the "y" to an "i" and add "ed":
 cry > cried
 fry > fried
