Active Power Control (APC) Option
Closed-loop control mechanism on µs timescale based on Power Sensors inside HPC Tray

Technical description
The power measuring sensor inside the laser detects the laser power and compares it on the microsecond
timescale to the target value.
If the actual value deviates from the specified target value, the laser power is readjusted until both values are the
same once again.
In this way the laser power is kept constant at a preset and specified value, regardless of its age or ambient
conditions.

Robustness against external disturbances

Fiber Laser basic Principles
▪ Transfer of pump light through side of fiber leads to
low power density and uniform pumping.
▪ Long gain fiber with small diameter leads to inherently
good beam quality (essentially single mode)
▪ Larger diameter pump fiber can accommodate large
number of laser diode packages.
Waste Heat
▪ Single emitter diode chips have longest lifetimes.
▪ Fiber coupled pump packages allows flexible design
layout to optimize cooling conditions etc.
▪ Pump packages fixed to water cooled plate – no water
near diodes, and relaxed constraints on coolant
quality. ▪ Power measurement: PDOF
(Photodiode over fiber)
▪ Inherent fiber delivery of resonator output gives ease ▪ Cavity mirrors: FBG (Fiber
bragg gratings)
of beam combining for higher power lasers. ▪ Outcoupling of unwanted light:
MS (Mode strippers)
▪ Ease of Manufacture – no tight tolerances on
positioning of optical components.
