Picture Analysis
Look at the picture and answer the following questions.
(Flickr 2010)
Guide Questions
1. What is shown in the picture?
2. Do you love to eat adobo?
3. Do you know the ingredients of Adobo? Would you like to know
how to cook it?
ENGAGE 4. What are the solid components in the mixture? How about the
liquid components?
5. Can you still identify the soy sauce and vinegar in the mixture?
Why?
Context Clues
Teachers unlock unfamiliar words through context clues.
Encircle the word/phrase in the second sentence that has the same
meaning with the underlined word in the first sentence. Write your
answers on a sheet of paper.
To understand the lesson well, let the learners do the next wherein
they will combine some materials to form solutions.
Mix Them Up
Group the learners accordingly. Set standards for the activity then
distribute the Learning Activity Sheets (see enclosures).
Procedures
1. Go to your respective workstations.
2. Using the materials found in your workstations, create solutions by
combining different mixtures. Each group/pupil must prepare a
glass and a stirrer. They will do it in front so that others can
observe.
Group 1 Add 1 tablespoon of salt to 50 ml water then stir.
Group 2 Add 1 tablespoon of sugar to 50 ml water then mix
well.
Group 3 Add 1 tablespoon of salt to 50 ml vinegar then stir.
Group 4 Mix 50 ml water with 1 tablespoon Calamansi
extract.
EXPLORE Group 5 Mix 25 ml soy sauce with 25 ml vinegar.
Guide Questions
1. What happened to the salt and sugar when mixed with water?
2. What happened to salt particles when mixed with vinegar?
3. What have you observed when water was mixed with calamansi
extract?
4. What have you noticed when soy sauce and vinegar were mixed
together?
5. Can you still recognize the individual components in this kind of
mixture?
6. What are the possible uses of the solutions formed in the activity?
Key Concepts
Solutions are homogeneous mixtures. The individual components
cannot be seen clearly in these kind of mixtures. Solutions are
created when two or more substances are combined forming a
uniform mixture. These can be in the form of liquid, solid, and gas.
A. Liquid solutions are composed of solute and solvent (solid-
liquid mixture) or miscible liquids (liquid-liquid mixture). Some
of the characteristics of liquid solutions are single-phase, made
up of very small particles, cannot be filtered, stable, and cannot
scatter a beam of light.
Examples of liquid solutions
Generalization
1. What are the three kinds of solutions? What are its components?
2. Are solutions purely made up of solid and liquid components?
3. What are the characteristics of a solution?
4. Give some examples of solutions.
Application
During this time of pandemic, it is advised that we boost our
immune system. What beverage can you prepare at home for you to
have a daily dose of Vitamin C.
1. Brine A. beverage
2. Sugar solution B. leche flan
3. Calamansi juice C. salted eggs
4. Soy-vinegar sauce D. cooked rice
5. Sugar dissolved in vinegar E. chicken Adobo
F. pickled Papaya
EVALUATE Directions: Choose the letter of the correct answer. Write your chosen
letter on a separate sheet of paper.
