We have a long love affair with DNL here in TRC.

I remember recommending it for the first time in 2013. By 2014, we told

members to sell it (for a forty-four percent profit!). But it didn’t take long—
when the price was right (lower than our Buy-Below Price), we asked people
to buy it again. We’ve always liked this company and have high respects for
the Lao Family.

We’re also fans of MONDE. Even before they listed in the stock market,
we admired this food company whose products are market leaders: Lucky
Me, Skyflakes, Fita, etc. Especially now that it owns Quorn, a company that produces meat
alternatives.

So whenever possible, I’ll be adding to my MONDE shares.

This past May, we saw the Philippine stock
market go lower—to as low as the 6,100 level.
It was only at the end of May that we saw a
rally that enabled the PSEi to break out of its
downtrend that started in January. However,
general sentiment for Philippine stocks have
been that of depressed and disinterested. This
is because of the high level of COVID-19 cases,
the tightening of quarantine restrictions, as

other Asian markets.
The market volatility in the U.S. were caused
by expensive valuations, concerns of rising
inflation, and the probable tapering by the U.S.
Fed. The volatility in the Asian markets, on the
other hand, was also due to the deterioration
of sentiment toward Asian stocks driven by the

several countries, like the Philippines, to
impose tighter mobility restrictions. In
addition, Asian countries are also vaccinating
their citizens at a much slower pace, thus
reducing the likelihood that they can keep the
number of COVID-19 infections down on a
more permanent basis.
In spite of the recent weakness of the Philippine
Stock Market, research analysts continue to
believe that now is a good time to buy and
accumulate stocks of good companies. They
believe this because the poor sentiment in
the market is creating an opportunity to buy
good companies at a discount or at cheaper
valuations. However, those who buy stocks
today must be prepared to hold on to their
stocks for the long term, as prices may continue

a very low price. Good thing, here in the Truly
Rich Club, we are long-term investors, and
with peso cost-averaging, we can start buying
now with a fixed amount and continue buying
regularly even when prices go down.
Now, there are some stocks going down on a
much faster pace due to the reduction of their
index weighting or their removal from the MSCI
Global Standard Index. Thus, fund managers
who use such indices as their benchmark
will have to reduce or sell their positions on
such stocks regardless of the stocks’ good
fundamentals.If not, the tracking error of their
fund will increase. Some of the SAM stocks
affected by these are MEG, ALI, and AP. This
means, you can buy these stocks at relatively
lower prices.

stocks listed in the SAM Table, provided you’re psychologically prepared to stay calm through the volatility.
For more clarity, we outline here two baby steps you can take to grow your investments if you’re a newbie investor:
Baby Step #1: If your portfolio is below P50,000, buy Philequity Index Fund first before you buy specific stocks. It’s less
volatile than any stock and you also get to invest the entire amount that you put into your account, unlike in stocks where
there is a minimum board lot.
Baby Step #2: If your portfolio is between P50,000 to P250,000, buy our recommended starter stocks below (first table).
Each month, we specify what these two or three stocks are, based on what we believe are the most stable and least volatile
of our SAM stocks (second table below).
Once again, these are only our suggestions. If you feel you can handle the up-and-down, roller-coaster ride of our other
stocks, then by all means, buy our other SAM stocks. They are all great companies that will do well over the long term.
