Reflection:
As we start our interview, I felt nervous but know that in order for this to be successful these
feelings should not overpower me. In interviewing her about her experience it becomes apparent
that while there has been some inclusion but not in MAPEH. She also said that she encountered
challenges teaching her classmates with different traditions than her. Despite this, she still has the
acknowledgement that integrating her culture to recognize their culture’s value that it’s more than
that.
In her experience, she told me that her teachers have a role on integrating their culture although
sometimes they only obliged because it’s for their grade. In our interview, I learned that its very
important to really incorporate our indigenous culture in our education to deepen our
understanding and promote respect. I also learned that it is important for teachers to incorporate
their culture in teaching their students although I realize that maybe majority of them don’t know
their indigenous culture as well. But overall, I’m grateful for the opportunity to experience how to
interview and learn their perspective in our research.
