BACKGROUND.

Amakhosazana ase WSU is a nonpolitical society that collects all young girls studying at WSU that are
still virgins and willing to abstain till they finish school. Our aim is to help reduce the rate of
pregnancy and abortion in our university. We are helping to maintain the dignity and legacy of
Walter Sisulu University, we promote academic excellence.

Amakhosazana ase WSU exists in all the campuses of WSU but Buffalo City Campus was the only
campus that was not recognized by student affairs. during December 2022 we elected the new
executive that I will provide the list of it in this document. My campuses was always struggling in
terms of transport, accommodation, meals etc. every time we are invited to an event we had to use
our own money to transport ourselves, so that didn’t sit well to me as the Chairperson. I tried by all
means to come up with a plan on how/what should I do in order for my campus to be recognized.

-on the 26 of February which was on Sunday, Thobile Nombuyiselo Gwala who is the facilitator of
BCC was added to our group as it was stated that each and every group should have a member that
is a founder.

-Tuesday the 21st of March, we were suppose to meet as maidens but unfortunately they all pulled
out without any reason, only one member made it to the meeting(Mazulu) then we decided to
postpone the meeting because we couldn’t make any movement.

-on the 22nd of March, I as the chairperson went to student affairs for recognition request, luckily the
whole SRC was there, they they began to tell me what I should do inorder for our society to be
recognized.

-23 March I wrote an email to MRS Sizani as I was instructed to do so.

-24 March mrs Sizani replied to an email that was sent on the previous day, telling us that we should
collect data because within no time we will be informed on what to do next

-on the 18th of April(Tuesday), I as the chairperson received an email from Sihle Mdingi the secretary
of BCC. The email stated that we as Amakhosazana are invited to the recognition of all SRC sub
structures and they require us to submit the following.

 plan of Action
 Organizational constitution
 A list of 50 signed members
 50 proofs of registrations
 Execuitive names, surnames, student numbers and contact details.

-all the data needed was going to be submitted on the 21st of April which was on Friday.

-on the 21s of April we went straight to student affairs offices, we submitted the required documents
and everything was a success.

-On the 20th of May we had a mini meeting that involve all BCC maidens including onomehlo bethu
everyone was inspected and onomehlo had no complaint about any of us.
-Tuesday the 6th of June the executive had a meeting with student affairs, our mentor said that she is
willing to help and support us as much as she can. She began to ask us to brief her about our A.O.P
she said we must list everything we want the school to provide.

-on the 9th of June we receive a call from student affairs, they wanted us to combine a list of tracksuit
sizes. We sent the sizes on Monday 12th of June.

-we requested the Launch to student affairs

-student affairs ask more information on how we want our launch to be, the ideas, suggestions, and
advice.

-The launch was supposed to be on the 3-4th August, but we had to postpone because of the
inauguration of the vice chancellor so we couldn’t proceed with the launch.

-Between the 24th of July and 9th, we had back-to-back meetings with student affairs for the launch
preparations.

-the launch was finally hosted on the 1st-2nd of September, everything went well.

After the launch we prepared for umkhosi womhlanga that was on the 08-09 September

-we went to KZN to attend Umkhosi womhlanga (Reed dance).

 Assume the duties of the president in absentia

 Assists in carrying out the society vision
 Assists the president in carrying out duties

I would like to start by saying that 2023 was indeed a good year for our society. In brief I attended
multiple meetings with other executive members, whilist we were still trying to get recognition for
our society. It was not easy but we pulled through. The first ever event that our society hosted was
the launching of our society in which we invited other campuses to be apart of our celebration as we
launch the BCC branch. The planning that went into that was hard but worth it because the event
was nothing short of amazing. I had to stand in on anything that maidens needed as the president
was still in training and couldn’t be apart of the planning process with us. In the chaos and planning
of the launch I still made sure that we attend practice and make do with the little that we have. I
tried encourging my fellow maidens to attend practice frequently as possible since we had new
members that needed to familiarize themselves with others. We processed to attending the annual
reed dance held in KwaNongoma. That one was an even bigger challenge for us since it was quite far
and only a limited amount of maidens could attend, from delegating who can attend right down to
making sure that we arrive and return safe. The president and I held down the BCC campus so well
and with ease as the other maidens also made easy for us to lead them. The last event attended by
the society was the cultural diversity event of which I couldn’t attend ad I was held up with school
projects and the days were clashing. I was not there physically but I was there in spirit. As the vice
president this year was quite stressful and amazing at the same time. I am glad to have been part of
the executive that lead my fellow maidens.

TRESURER

I am asked to comply a report in the progress, Roles and Challenges faced year 2023.

Introduction : Amakhosazana ase WSU It’s a Non political society that collects all young
girls studying at WSU that are still virgins and willing to abstain till they finish school

Aim: is to help reduce the rate of pregnancy and abortions in our University,We're helping in
maintaining the Dignity and Legacy of Walter Sisulu University and we Promote Academic
Excellence.
Role(Executive): A treasurer is a financial executive responsible for managing an
organization's financial assets and ensuring the company's liquidity and financial stability. I
never played my role because of the students affairs was responsible for money keeping since
we are still a new society, they had to operate majority of the things to keep us on the line.

Availability/ Attendance: I attend all three events that were conducted by the university, e.g
Opening Function, Umhlanga and Cultural Diversity Function. I never attended a meeting
sessions because of the school practical that I always had during the week when meetings
were conducted, my apologies on that.

I am an active member signing out for year 2023 to give others opportunity to play a role.
Thank you.

Challenges faced:
 Communication -barrier: overcoming any communication barrier such as language
differences or limited accessibility can be a hurdle.
 Poor Sessions attendance
 Lack of commitment from some of the meeting sessions.

ORGANIZER.

This is the person who plans and arranges an event or activity. Organizer responsible for ensuring

that the event goes smoothly and that everybody involved in the event does their jobs. designing

and prating event materials, develop the food menu. Organizer also organize[offer] transport to

make it easy for guests to get to the venue. Organizer will help other members of the society to

identify relevant speaker’s availability and ensure that the event holds is scheduled.

This year I did exactly that as an organizer. I made sure that everything was organized, firstly we did

launch camp, secondly, we took a trip during September to reed dance (Umkhosi Womhlanga).
Maidens (Amakhosazane) we offered track suits before the reed dance trip took place. Transport,

food, accommodation was offered to them. I made sure that everyone was safe during the trip.

SOCIAL AND WELFARE

 Looks into the mental health of members

 Organizes programs to reach out to the community
 Plans for ways in which the society can touch the lives of the community, responsible
for social development.

As the new social officer that was elected a few months before the end of the academic
calendar. There was little to none left for me to do. Since I was elected in the middle of the
academic year I tried learning what my position required of me. Once I grasped everything I
discovered that I had to check on the member from time to time about their upkeep. I
checked up on the members as a collective if they were doing fine and whether or not they
required any form of therapy. In which they were doing just fine and none required therapy
or counselling. I tried being a safe space for them to land on whenever they felt like they
were crashing. In the little space left that is all I managed to do.

MEDIA AND PERSONALITY.

I Lungiswa Simelane, was appointed to the position of Media and Personality. In this role I
created and shared content of Amakhosazane aseWSU regularly and worked to build a
relationship with our followers, including people who are interested or like what we are
sharing. I attended meetings from the beginning of the year in planning of our official BCC
launch. I also worked hand in hand with the Media and Personality of Mthatha campus,
where we publicized our content as Amakhosazane aseWSU. Furthermore I gave assistance
to our Organizer of BCC in planning of the reed dance ceremony.

List of members.

There were 22 members, 2 members resigned. 1 of them was in the execuitive but she was
not active at all, she didn’t attend any of the events/meetings so the execuitive took the
right decision as it is written on the constitution. The second one had no reason she just
pulled out. Now we are left with 20 maidens.
Attended events.

-openning camp at Mthatha camp

-camp at Ngcobo
-launch at BCC
-Umkhosi womhlanga at KZN
-women empowerment at East London
-Send off event at Potsdam

Challenges.
IMVUNULO!!! IMVUNULO!!! IMVUNULO!!! IMVUNULO!!
At first we were placing orders at Mthatha camp but we ended up noticing that it’s a childs
play because orders take a lot of time infact orders takes half a year or even more. So we
decided to do our orders aside. Otherwise hay sheim!!!!!!!!!

Recommendations for incoming execuitive.

-be focused.
-be consistent
-be loyal to each other

-work together as a team

-be organized
