Reflection of Becoming a Reflective Practitioner

Description:Becoming a reflective practitioner is a course from my specialisation in Enfield

program. It is a third semester course. Before this course begin I had very little idea about it. I
even searched on it but I was still not sure what are we supposed to learn in this course. This
course is from the field of instructional leadership which my advisor also recommended would
be helpful in becoming a good leader in the field of education. This course started with our
classes on campus. In the beginning of the course we were given An introduction that every
professional is a practitioner and as a practitioner it is necessary to reflect upon your
experiences.

Feelings:
Before the beginning of the scores I was quite confused and not sure what exactly the scores
would be about but during my first class I felt that this course is going to be really helpful in my
professional and academic development the first thing that hit me hard was that reflection is
basically private but it can be public but if you do public reflection it shows our vulnerabilities. An
example of it was given in the closet by our course instructor that when a teacher discuss this
something in the staff room in the presence of the doors who might not be her vultures it can be
harmful for her. We must reflect in the presence of those who would guide us and help us.
During this course I learnt a very important lesson that is “how to reflect” on an experience in
order to improve ourselves. I have tried to use it in my job as well, I tried to reflect upon the
events that I thought needed to be looked back again. This surely gives you a chance to look
things again in better light and improve the areas that require improvement.
Now almost this course is over and I feel like it has matured me as a practitioner. For someone
like me who is new at job or has just started their career this course was definitely helpful.

Evaluation:

The good thing about this course was that it was taught well, with real life examples that were
easy to relate with. Even the course book that we were assigned was easy enough to
understand. The credit also goes to our instructor as he made sure we understood why we were
in this class.
Amazing thing was that our instructor’s examples were relatable enough for those as well who
are not practitioners or have never worked before, as he used to give us examples according to
specific contexts.

Analysis:
I can say that this course went really well. I thoroughly enjoyed the classroom discussions and
stories that were incorporated into the lecture. It is important that a course is made interesting
by using examples from real life which a student can relate to. For me I was better able to
understand this course as I'm able to utilise it in my job as well. I can fit in the strategies in the
job context.

Conclusion:

Overall this course is important for professional development. This type of course can also be
included in other fields as well, not just in Education. Sometimes we do becomes a practitioner
but we need help of some skilled and experienced ones to guide us better.
