PREFACE

This Teaching Plan Book on Fire and Explosion Management Course is prepared as a standard
guide for teaching management which contains general information, competencies to be
achieved, topics, references, learning stages, assignment and exercise drafts, evaluation method
for learning outcomes, and activity matrix.

This guide is intended for teaching staff of the Occupational Safety and Health Master Course
at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia. This book is expected to help the
learning process run well and students can achieve the course objectives and competencies as
expected. The author hope that the information contained in this book can be studied and
utilized as well as possible for the success of learning.

It is recognized that this guideline has many shortcomings. Therefore, constructive criticism
and suggestions are welcome for future improvement of this book.

11. Course description :
In this course, it is expected that students will be able to explain and analyze the problems
based on phenomena, principles, Fire Dynamics and Explosion concepts when given fire
and explosion problems. The analysis includes relevant regulations, fire and explosion
management, fire prevention, fire protection and fire safety. In addition, students are
expected to be able to analyze problems and develop programs for fire and explosion
prevention, develop emergency response preparedness (ERP) programs, and provide
recommendations for fire and explosion protection as needed.
The learning method used is the active learning method (student centered learning) with
Collaborative learning and Case Based Learning in addition to interactive lectures guided
by facilitators/resource persons, class discussions, practical implementation, and
implementation of evacuation simulations. Students participate actively in discussing each
topic and completing assignments both individually and in groups. The evaluation method
includes independent and group assignments, group presentation, and participation in
discussions.

II. Course Learning Outcomes (CLO) and Competencies at the End of the Learning
Stage (Sub-CLO)

A. CLO:
When given problems related to fire and explosion, students are able to explain
and analyze the problems based on phenomena, principles, Fire Dynamics and
Explosion concepts.

B. SUB-CLO (Competencies at the End of Each Learning Stage)

1. When given fire problems on fire and explosion, students are able to explain and
analyze these problems based on phenomena, principles, concepts from Fire
Dynamics and Explosion (principles, phenomena, concepts, objectives,
benefits, relationship and interaction with other scientific fields).
2. Able to obtain information and understand regulations, standards, sources of
information related to fire and explosion.
3. When given cases on fire and explosion in an industry/location, students are able
to:
• Describe the problems that underlie the fire.
• Describe the sequence of events and the factors causing fires (direct and
indirect causes).
• Describe and evaluate the existing fire safety system.
• Recommend improvements.
4. Able to analyze problems and develop programs for fire and explosion
prevention, develop emergency response preparedness (ERP) programs, and
provide recommendations for fire and explosion protection as needed.
5. Able to compile, evaluate, and recommend improvements to Fire and Explosion
and ERP basic systems and programs in industries, buildings, and
transportation.
6. Students have basic skills to extinguish small fires using fire extinguishers and
have experience in extinguishing fire ground.
