11
Chapter – 3

Research Gap

The project aims to develop an online ambulance booking portal

integrated with first aid support to facilitate prompt access to
emergency medical services. However, several research gaps exist in
key areas:

1. Integration of Real-Time Medical Assessment:

- Current literature lacks exploration into integrating real-time
medical assessment tools within the portal to assist users in assessing
the severity of the medical condition accurately.
- Research is needed to develop algorithms or tools that enable users
to input symptoms or vital signs, providing paramedics with valuable
information before their arrival.

2. Personalized First Aid Recommendations:

- There is a gap in research regarding the customization of first aid
recommendations based on the user's location, medical history, and the
type of emergency.
- Further investigation is necessary to develop algorithms or decision
support systems that generate tailored first aid instructions for different
scenarios.

3. Effectiveness of Remote First Aid Guidance:

- Limited studies have evaluated the effectiveness of remote first aid
guidance provided through online platforms during medical
emergencies.
- Research is required to assess the impact of remote guidance on
patient outcomes, including survival rates, complications, and recovery
times.

12
4. User Experience in High-Stress Situations:
- Literature lacks in-depth exploration of user experience design
principles tailored specifically for high-stress emergency situations.
- Further research is needed to understand how to design user
interfaces that are intuitive, accessible, and effective in guiding users
through the portal during emergencies.

5. Ethical and Legal Implications:

- There is a gap in research on the ethical and legal implications of
providing first aid guidance through online platforms, particularly
regarding liability and confidentiality issues.
- Further investigation is necessary to establish guidelines and
regulations that ensure ethical and legal compliance while delivering
emergency medical assistance online.

“Addressing these research gaps will contribute to the development of

a more comprehensive and effective Aarogya Service Portal, enabling
it to better assist users during medical emergencies and facilitating
timely access to life-saving medical care. Additionally, closing these
gaps will advance knowledge in the fields of emergency medical
services, telemedicine, and healthcare technology”.

13
Proposed Systems

The Aarogya Service Portal aims to provide a seamless and efficient platform for online
ambulance booking and first aid support. Below are the proposed systems within the
project:

1. Online Ambulance Booking System:

- User Registration and Authentication: Users will be required to register on the portal
by providing essential details such as name, contact information, and location.
Authentication mechanisms, such as email verification or two-factor authentication, will
ensure the security of user accounts
.
- Ambulance Availability and Booking: The system will display real-time information
about available ambulances in the vicinity of the user's location. Users can select the
nearest ambulance and book it instantly through the portal. Confirmation notifications will
be sent to both the user and the ambulance dispatch center.

- GPS Tracking and Navigation: Once booked, users can track the location of the
ambulance in real-time using GPS technology integrated into the portal. Navigation
features will provide the ambulance driver with the most efficient route to reach the user's
location promptly.

2. First Aid Support System:

- Interactive First Aid Guides: The portal will offer interactive first aid guides that users
can access in emergency situations. These guides will provide step-by-step instructions for
administering first aid for various medical emergencies, including CPR, choking, bleeding
control, and basic wound care.

- Personalized Recommendations: Based on the user's location, type of emergency, and

medical history (if available), the system will generate personalized first aid
recommendations. Users will receive tailored instructions on how to provide immediate
care to the patient before the arrival of the ambulance.

- Emergency Contact Integration: The first aid system will be integrated with emergency
contact information provided by the user during registration. In case of severe
emergencies where immediate medical attention is required, the system will automatically
notify designated emergency contacts with the user's location and details of the situation.
14
3. Integration and Communication Systems:

- Ambulance Dispatch Center Integration: The portal will be seamlessly integrated with
ambulance dispatch centers to facilitate quick communication and coordination between
users, ambulance drivers, and dispatch operators.

- Emergency Services Directory: The portal will maintain a comprehensive directory of

emergency medical services, including hospitals, clinics, and specialized medical
facilities. Users can access contact information and directions to nearby healthcare
providers in case of non-emergency medical needs or follow-up care.

“By implementing these proposed systems, the Aarogya Service Portal will effectively
cater to the needs of users during medical emergencies, enabling them to access timely
ambulance services and receive essential first aid support, ultimately improving patient
outcomes and saving lives”.
