Sentence and its

types
Sentence: - A group of words which gives a
complete sense.
For example: -
Your This house is.
This is your house.

Types of Sentences: -
1. Assertive: - (Sub + Verb + object)
Can be Affirmative and negative
For example: -

The Earth moves around the sun. (Affirmative)


He does not like me. (Negative)
Chess is my favourite game. (Affirmative)
They are my parents. (Negative)

She will help you. ( )


The girls do not make a noise ( )
2. Interrogative - (Verb + subject + object?)
a) Yes/no (is, am, are, was, were….)
b) Wh family (Why, Who, Where, What…)
For example: -

Is She a teacher? (Yes/no type)


Where are you going? (Wh family)
Does she teach well? (Yes/no type)
Who are you? (Wh family)

What is your name? ( )


Are you coming with me? ( )

3. Imperative - (Verb 1st form/Don’t + Verb 1st form +


object)

For order, advice, request, prohibition


For example: -

Don’t be late! (Prohibition)


Sit down please. (request)
Get out of my sight! (Order)
Don’t smoke in the toilet. (Advice)

Try the blue shirt. ( )


Wait for me please. ( )
4. Exclamatory – (!)
To express sudden joy, sorrow, surprise, anger, love
For example: -

Hurrah ! We have won the match. (Joy)


Alas! I lost my wallet. (sorrow)
How pretty the picture is! (surprise)
You are late again! (Anger)

What a pleasant day it is! ( )


You are adorable! ( )

5. Optative: - (!)
To express a wish or to give blessings
For example: -

May you live long!


Wish you good luck!
May god bless you with everything!
Good morning!
Wishing you the happiest birthday ever!
May you succeed in your goals!
Wish you all speak fluent English soon!
