Discussion ENGAGE
Proper The students will watch a short video about GCF AND LCM, to give them a little idea on what
25 minutes lesson we will tackle for the day.

After watching the video the students should be able to answer the following questions

What is the video all about?

Are you familiar with it?
Share your ideas about how you find the video. Is it interesting, hard to understand, or is it
helpful to you?

EXPLORE

The students will be given a paper that contains a word puzzle.

Based on the video you watched a while ago, encircle the words that you will find on the
word puzzle that you think it's related to our lesson today.

After the word puzzle activity the students will be asked guided questions only.

How was the activity?

What did you feel while doing it?
What did you learn from our activity?

EXPLAIN

-Alright, LCM stands for least common multiple. The least common multiple of two
numbers is the smallest number that is a multiple of both of them.
A multiple in math are the numbers you get when you multiply a certain number
by an integer. For example, multiples of 5 are: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30… Multiples of 7
are: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49…etc.
-Can you name some multiples of 3 now?
: 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30…
-Very good, students. Now you know what multiples are now let us proceed on
finding the LCM of two numbers.

For example: Find the LCM of 4 and 6.

Let’s list down first their multiples. Multiples of 4 are 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36,
40… multiples of 6 are 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, 60
After listing all the multiples we will just find the least number that are both
present in the multiples of 4 and 6. So what is it? alright, it is 12.

Another example: Find the LCM of 12 and 13

Multiples of 12 are 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120, 132, 144, 156, 168, 180
Multiples of 13 are 13, 26, 39, 52, 65, 78, 91, 104, 117, 130, 143, 156, 169, 182.
LCM - 156

Now you know how to get the LCM of two numbers. Let’s proceed to GCF
(GREATEST COMMON FACTOR)
-What is gcf? The greatest common factor (GCF) of a set of numbers is the largest
factor that all the numbers share.
Factors in math are numbers you can multiply to get a certain number.
For example, to get the number 8, you can multiply 2 x 4. So, 2 and 4 are factors of
8. also 8 and 1 are factors of 8. Every number can be factored into 1 and itself,
these are known as trivial factors.

Now let’s find the GCF of two numbers. GCF of 12 and 24. Just like the LCM we will
list down first the factors of both numbers.
Factors of 12: pair factors (1,12) (3,4) (2, 6) or (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12)
Factors of 24: Its pair factors are (1, 24), (2, 12), (3, 8), (4, 6) or (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12
and 24).
GCF - 12
There are methods in finding the gcf. These are the ff.
● Long Division Method
● Prime Factorization Method
● Listing Common Factors

LONG DIVISION METHOD

GCF of 12 and 24 is the divisor that we get when the remainder becomes 0 after
doing long division repeatedly.
● Step 1: Divide 24 (larger number) by 12 (smaller number).
● Step 2: Since the remainder = 0, the divisor (12) is the GCF of 12 and 24.
The corresponding divisor (12) is the GCF of 12 and 24.

GCF of 12 and 24 by Prime Factorization

Prime factorization of 12 and 24 is (2 × 2 × 3) and (2 × 2 × 2 × 3) respectively. As

visible, 12 and 24 have common prime factors. Hence, the GCF of 12 and 24 is 2 × 2
× 3 = 12.

● Factors of 12: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12
● Factors of 24: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24
There are 6 common factors of 12 and 24, that are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12. Therefore,
the greatest common factor of 12 and 24 is 12.

ELABORATE

The teacher will group the class into 5 groups. Each group will be given a tag board, in the
tagboard they will write their answer on it. Each group will collaborate in finding the LCM
AND GCF of two numbers. They will only be given 10 seconds to solve. After 10 seconds
they will all raise their tag boards. The group who had the correct answer will be given a
point. And the group who will gather the highest points will be the winner.
