WHAT IS THE
MOON?
The moos is the only natural satellite the Earth has.
A satellite is an object that revolves around a large object.
The moon does not produce its own light. It only reflects the light
coming from the sun.
Since the moon is revolving around the Earth, the
amount of light it reflects from the sun varies as it
changes its position

ANECLIPSE
ECLIPSE
An eclipse of the Sun or Moon occurs when the
Earth, Moon, and Sun are aligned. In a solar
eclipse the Moon comes between the Sun and
Earth.
The moon’s appearance changes from time to time. because
the illuminated portion of the moon changes as it moves
around the Earth. This apparent change in the moon's
appearance is known as the moon's phases.
But I won't be discussing it because I
might get a copyright.
So.... How does the
moon affect us?
there are three main ways in which the Moon
impacts on life: time, tides and life.
TIME
The pull of the moon is also slowing the Earth's
rotation, an effect known as tidal braking, which
increases the length of our day by 2.3 milliseconds
per century.
TIDES
TIDES
The Moon and Earth exert a gravitational pull on each other. On Earth,
the Moon's gravitational pull causes the oceans to bulge out on both
the side closest to the Moon and the side farthest from the Moon.
These bulges create high tides. The low points are where low tides
occur.
LIFE
LIFE
Fluctuating light levels reflected by the Moon also have a startling
impact on life on Earth.
Not only has low lighting led to several interesting nocturnal
adaptations, but some organisms rely directly on moonlight to
navigate and procreate.
BELIEFS AND
PRACTICES
ASSOCIATED
WITH THE MOON
SUPER
Superstitions are beliefs based on opinions,
observations, and experiences but have no
scientific explanation. Even in this modern
age, some people still believe in
superstitions.
SUPER
Phases of the moon are often associated
with superstitious beliefs because they
have a great impact on Earth and, in turn,
affect our lives.
MOON AND
PLANTING
Farmers believe planting during specific moon
phases can lead to better harvests due to the
impact of the moon on plant growth rates. The
waxing phases, from new to full moon, have
higher ei moisture, potentially promoting
germination and growth in crops, making it a
popular choice for farmers.
MOON AND
WEATHER
The Moon's perigee position near Earth leads
to lower temperatures due to the combined
gravitational pull of the Moon and Sun.
Although it doesn't significantly impact
weather, it affects the atmosphere similarly
to the ocean.
TIDES
THE MOON AND EARTH'S
GRAVITATIONAL PULL CAUSES
OCEAN BULGES ON EARTH'S SIDE
CLOSEST TO AND FARTHEST
FROM THE MOON, CAUSING HIGH
TIDES, AND LOW TIDES AT LOW
POINTS. THIS PROCESS OCCURS
DUE TO THE MOON'S
GRAVITATIONAL PULL.
Mythologies
about the moon
philippine
mythology
Bakunawa
The Bakunawa is a serpent-
like dragon in Philippine
mythology. It is believed to be
the cause of eclipses,
earthquakes, rains, and wind.
Bakunawa
Tales about the Bakunawa say
that it is the cause of eclipses.
Bakunawa
Ancient Cebuanos believed
Bathala created seven moons
to illuminate the sky, which the
Bakunawa, amazed by their
beauty, would swallow them,
angering Bathala and making
them mortal enemies.
Bakunawa
Ancient Filipinos used pans and pots to
scare the Bakunawa dragon from
swallowing the moons. They played
soothing sounds with musical
instruments, hoping the dragon would
fall asleep. The brave men hoped to
slay the dragon, known as a "moon
eater" or a "man eater."
Greek and roman
mythology
Selene/Luna
In ancient Greek mythology and
religion, Selene is the goddess and
personification of the Moon.
Her Roman name is Luna. Which is
why our moon is often identified as
Lunar and Selene
