CONFIGURATION LIP4

1. INTRODUCTION
There are two different versions of LIP4 display, the old and the new version. There is a main difference
between them the new version has 8 connectors (D1…D6, CN9 and CN10) and the previous version only
has 6 (D1…D6) (see ANNEX V).

The new version has the same features than the previous one but it add the possibility of working with PIU
protocol, before only LS protocol was available.
The display show graphic messages and additionally as an option has the possibility to give voice
announcement in one or two different languages. For voice announcement is necessary having installed
the language chips (connected in B1 & B2) and an additional special EEPROM to redirect the messages
(voice, special graphics messages or both).

As we can work with two different protocols, the connections between display and controller depend of
the selected protocol.

CONFIGURATION LIP4

For CMC4 controller is necessary to define wich protocol will be used, for that, go to the next memory
addresses:

ADDRESS PARAMETER VALUE

31B4 Protocol for UCP 00  LS ; 01  PIU
31B5 Protocol for UCC 00  LS ; 01  PIU
31B6 Protocol for UCM 00  LS ; 01  PIU

2. LS protocol

2.1. STANDARD MESSAGES

To show standard messages, we only need to introduce, in the controller parameters, the associated
code to the message to be shown (see ANNEX II, Fig.1) there is a memory address for the each floor level
(see ANNEX II, fig.2).

UCM / MAIN BOARD

CMC4: A1FF / 30DF

Example:

Show “E” in level 2

 CMC3 Controller:
With the POME/PDA tool, using the function 25, access to ext. RAM, then in the address A1E2
introduce the code 58 (associated code for “E”).

 CMC4 Controller:
With the POME/PDA tool, using the function 25, access to ext. RAM, then in the address 30C2
introduce the code 2C (associated code for “E”).

2.2. SPECIAL MESSAGES

If you want to show a non standard graphic message or a voice announcement, a special eeprom have to
be programmed (24C04 or compatibles, like 24C08).

The controller is programmed with number of pulses to be sent to the display, depending of number of
pulses we will access to different memory addresses in the display EEPROM (example code 00 from
controller access to address 00 for graphic message and 100 for voice announcement of the 24C04
EEPROM).

In the display EEPROM (24C04), have to be introduced the code for the message to be shown and/or to
be heard.

All the available digits to be shown are in ANNEX I.

2.2.1. GRAPHIC MESSAGES

Graphics messages are saved in memory addresses from 00 to 6D in the display special EEPROM
(24C04).

The graphic configuration is the same for the old and new version of LIP4. Two memory addresses are
used for each graphic message.

2.2.2. VOICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Voice announcement are saved in memory addresses from 100 to 16D in the display special EEPROM.

2.2.2.1 Old LIP4 version:

Two memory addresses will be used to codify each voice announcement. We introduce the code
associated to the required voice message in ASCII code (see ANNEX II). If we need to hear “BASEMENT”
that is associated to code 32, we will put 33 (3 in ASCII code) in the first address and 32 (2 in ASCII code)
in the second address.

STEP 1:
With POME tool function 25, access to the memory addresses for the desired level in the controller.

STEP 2:
In the selected memory address, insert the number of pulses to be sent to the display.

STEP 3:

addresses associated to the number of pulses sent.

3. PIU protocol
This protocol is only available in CMC4 controller !!

3.1. GRAPHIC MESSAGES

In the controller access for each level to the addresses for the selected level (see ANNEX IV), with this
protocol three addresses are used, units, tens and hundreds (hundreds are not in use).
Two digits per level can be shown (see ANNEX IV to select the available codes).
Introduce the code associated to the required message in ASCII code.

STEP 1:
With POME tool function 25, access to the controller memory addresses for the units in the selected level
(ANNEX IV).

STEP 2:
In the selected memory address, insert the code for the message to be shown in the display’s “unit
position”.

STEP 3:
With POME tool function 25, access to the controller memory addresses for tens in the selected level.

STEP 4:
In the selected memory address, insert the code for the message to be shown in the display’s “tens
position”.

3.2. VOICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Four memory addresses will be used to codify each voice announcement. We introduce the code
associated to the required voice message in ASCII code, the number has to be completed with 0 (30 in
ASCII code) until you have a four digits number. If we need to ear “BASEMENT” that is associated to code

address, 33 (3 in ASCII code) in the third address and 32 (2 in ASCII code) in the fourth address.

With PIU protocol, access to the same memory address in the display EEPROM (24C04) for each level,
independently of the programmed code for level in the controller.

LEVEL DISPLAY’s EEPROM ADDRESSES

0 100 101 102 103
1 104 105 106 107
2 108 109 10A 10B
3 10C 10D 10E 10F
… … … … …
10 128 129 12A 12B
… … … … …

EXAMPLE: Show “YG” and hear “BASEMENT” in the bottom floor.

With the POME tool, function 25 accede to address for units in level 0 (3154) and introduce 59 (“Y” code).
Then, accede to address for tens in level 0 (3155) and introduce the code 47 (“G” code). The addresses
for the hundreds have not to be programmed.

After that, program the display’s EEPROM (24C04). Access to addresses 100, 101, 102 and 103.
Introduce 30 (0 in ASCII code), 30 (0 in ASCII code), 33 (3 in ASCII code) and 32 (2 in ASCII code)
because “0032” is associated with “BASEMENT” voice announcement.
